Saturday afternoon we had a new player come tryout for my DD's 1st year 14U team. She was recommended by a friend who coaches middle school. He billed her as super athletic, but limited in experience. She turned out to be better than advertised; she killed it in agility drills and when the girls were warming up their arms it was very apparent she had a good glove and was very coordinated. Then hitting off the light flight machine, she struggled for the first five or six balls then jacked one across the gym we practice in; who hits a home run during their tryout?

However, there is one thing about her that I had to have a discussion with the head coach about; she was brought to practice by her grandparents and what I thought was her brother, but later learned was...her boyfriend.

I'm afraid this may be contagious.

Maybe her parents work and the grandparents help with transportation. Maybe she lives with her grandparents. If you have her on the team you can inform her that team rules are no boyfriends at practice, if that is a rule you have. If she is as good as you say, without more info, it seems like you are looking for a reason to tell her that you do not want her on the team.

Ummmm...

Give my DD high five, we are good.

Good for boyfriend coming to practice and supporting her. I am assuming he just watched, good for him.

Rather him be working but supporting DD would be #2 on list.

was he a clean cut upstanding looking young man? was he respectful? if you are going to judge her for having a boyfriend.. maybe at least give her the benefit of making a good choice.

I'm hoping this is a joke. Yes, having a boyfriend/girlfriend is contagious almost everyone catches it at some time. You are entering the age when girls have new distractions...boys, cars, jobs, binge watching Gossip Girl.

She has a boyfriend and still wants to play softball? You're one step ahead...especially if he's supportive of her playing.

If you have rules about who can attend your practices, and his attendance violates a rule, that's a completely different issue.
