First year 10u travel ball team. We joined a boys organization that has about 15 teams at various age levels. This is the first year this organization will have girls travel ball. We are starting out small, there is 1 10u team and 1 12u team.

Can anyone tell me if we purchase insurance from ASA, will that insurance cover the team for a USSSA or NSA tournament, does the insurance reciprocate between organizations? Or do you need to purchase separate insurance from each entity that you play a tournament in?

Feel free to offer any other pertinent information that you consider helpful in regards to insurance for a t.b. team.

I am hoping we can hop on the insurance of the boys organization as a rider to their policy but i need to talk to the man incharge. We don't start playing games until April and will start practicing indoors in January. So we have a little time to figure this out.

Usually the big name org insurances carry over between orgs. I've never had an issue with USSSA insurance.

NSA now requires that you purchase NSA insurance. You can purchase a team policy for the weekend as an option for NSA. USSSA and PONY will take their own insurance as well as other organizations. For ASA qualifiers, you will need to register individual players with ASA, and this comes with insurance (which can be used in ASA, USSSA, and PONY). If you play PGF qualifiers, you need to purchase PGF insurance (which works for USSSA and PONY and non-qualifiers for ASA).

In my experience with ASA the insurance did cover between sanctions. However they were the only one to make me take some tests to become "certified" each year I had to retake a test to become a level 2 or 3...

The ASA test is like the drivers written exam. Tell them what they want to hear, not necessarily what you think. Or learned here.

Most organizations recognize and accept ASA team insurance for their tournaments. Last year PGF started to push the envelope by requiring their own insurance and NOT accepting ASA, but I believe they are the only ones.

Unless you plan on playing ASA state or regional tournaments, which is required to play, I would stay away from their insurance. NSA is one of the cheaper insurance plans and one of the better plans. They cover all other sanctions.

Thank you for the input. I did talk to the head guy of the organization, we are not able to get on their insurance as a rider. We will not be a full time travel team so to speak. Our plan is to play in 4 tournaments from April through July and around 15-20 games in a league that is in the area for tb teams vs other local teams. No out of state trips, so everything should be within a 1 hour drive. My plan is to find a couple tournaments within one organization, not sure if those tournaments will be ASA, USSSA, or NSA at the time. We could also play in some of the independent tournaments. PGF is not in the plan at all, I don't expect to have that kind of talent.
