US Club Rankings

DD's team is ranked and actually tied the #1 team in a pool game that counted toward seeding so was significant. So that's cool.

But, one area in which these rankings miss the mark is failure to rate teams that don't play nationally. I don't know how many worthy 'regional' teams there might be. In our state, there are probably 5 in each age division that could've made a top 250 nationally if they'd campaigned for it. I know one in DD's age division that almost definitely would be top 100, or at least they could beat several of the top 100 teams I see. But they don't show up.

I do appreciate the effort, though, as inexact as it might be. I think it's valuable for teams and players to have a sense of where they stand nationally.

DD's team is on the list but with only 1 qualifying tournament and we had a terrible showing in that tournament. A team that we consistently run rule from about an hour south of us is ranked about 100 spots higher on the list as they won 1 additional game at nationals and played in another qualifying tournament for the rankings. Outside the top 100 I'm not sure about he accuracy of the rankings. But it's cool to look at I guess..

If they don't compete against the other top teams that do play nationally, why would they be considered for a ranking? They are not using finishes at No Name regional tournament where the Hittin' Kittens compete. There is another tab that shows regional rankings, but it's not updated. Maybe the teams you are referencing are listed there. I see that my DD's team has a top 10 CPI rank, but then I compare it to another local team that I know has an extensive history of sending players to the P5 programs have not updated their 2016 commits info. Yes it's not exact, but I think they give their best quantitative effort based on what information is provided.

Kind of nice to see out of the top 10 18U teams 6 are not from Cali. TX, GA, AL and IL.

Yeah, I was looking closer at it, and once you start awarding points for quantity (events played), you're losing something. It's also unsophisticated to look purely at games won or rounds advanced in a tournament because that ignores strength of schedule, strength of draw. Obviously, if you win it, you won it, and the top few teams are rated correctly, but more sophisticated rankings models that use margin of victory that good teams that got horrible draws, or vice-versa, especially if you have scores from a good number of tournaments.

You don't have to play nationally to play teams that play nationally. I'll give you an example. The Carolina Cardinals are ranked #59 in 18U. The Cardinals won ASA A nationals and finished top 12 in the Independence Day Classic in Colorado.

In North Carolina, the Cardinals finished third in the ASA state tournament behind Team NC/Martin and the Carolina Wildcats. The Wildcats beat them twice. Team NC beat the Wildcats twice by good margins. Only the Cardinals among those 3 are ranked. The Cardinals are an outstanding team. Not taking anything away from them. Just saying that if they're legitimately the #59 team in the country, then I've got to wonder how the Wildcats and Team NC would rank if they'd played national events. I feel confident they would've made the top 200 if they'd played the right events.

I might've heard that the Cardinals used some of their college players for ASA nationals, and maybe they didn't use them when they played ASA state. So I don't know the whole story. But just pointing out that not every outstanding team positions itself to qualify for rankings like this.

There is absolutely no reason to rank teams that don't play nationally although it kind of blows the rankings when teams in the rankings get beat by regional teams. In Minnesota, there are several teams that won't even play inside the state unless it is a PGF event. While some might say it is because they are too good and don't want to play the Daddy Ball Diamonds others say they are scared they will get beat by some regional teams and it might ruin their "elite" status.

Seems pointless as almost all these teams will change since club season is basically over at the end of July and starts over in Sept with new rosters.

Do these teams get a trophy for this? Sorry, who gives a flying $%^&. It isn't about the talent, but the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. This whole world is about $$$, not hard work and sacrifice. Sorry CoogansBluff, but for every one girl on these so called elite teams, there are girls that are just as good if not better, that have parents that live paycheck to paycheck, that cant afford to play for the special teams. So they can stick their ranking the same place where most of these people have their heads. Sorry not PC anymore.

P.S.
I will take my time out now and be proud of it.

There is no trophy, but you get a badge to put on your team's website! You have 30 more minutes of time out.
