Fall is definitely more chill for us. Late spring is when we all start to get a little burned out sometimes if we're not careful. We play 4-6 tournaments in the fall, have a month + off in August. Probably depends on the kid though, and how much she loves softball.
The month of August is a "chill period' for us,
and then, DD is excited to get out and play a few friendlies,
and a few tournaments in Fall with the new roster.
After the Summer we've had,
playing in September/October in the northeast is going to feel pretty good!
I think its good for the players. I like the relaxed atmosphere. It allows the players to try new things in low pressure situations, pitchers can work on new pitches, players can try different positions, try slapping. It also gives coaches a chance to see any new players.
When DD was 14U/16U she played in a fall ball league about 2.5 hours away. The team consisted of mostly HS players. She played 2 one hour drop dead games every Saturday for 6 weeks. I was fun, laid back and gave her a chance to get to know her teammates. Last year and this year (16U/18U) DD has played on two fall ball teams. One is made up of mostly her HS teammates and we play in a fundraising 6 week, 2 games on Saturday (when we can make it). She also plays with her TB team and this fall we will be scrimmaging 6-8 NW college teams and doing one showcase. She has always loved it.
