DD is still eligible to play 18U next year and her team wants her back but right now she's not interested in playing that much. Yesterday I got asked by a coach from a large organization DD used to play in if she would consider playing for their 23U team next summer. It would be made up of all college players only playing a few tournaments and she would play for free. I was instantly liking the idea of FREE:)
I've never seen any 23U teams play... How's the competition? I'm sure her old team would be fine with her only playing in a few tournaments if that's all she wanted to do also but the new team is close to the house, and did I mention, free?

Most 23u teams will be made up of current or recent college players who are playing for fun/to stay sharp/to stay in shape. Typically good ball, low drama, limited travel as its not recruiting driven. Large rosters to accommodate work or vacation schedules etc. It will be a nice break from the 18u travel circuit and the mental and physical grind of the college season. The price sound good too.

Thanks GM. I'm hoping she wants to do it and I know some of the girls are pretty darn good players.

My daughter got to play in a 23u tournament this past summer and she loved it. She was on the infield with 4 girls who played in the division 2 World Series this past year, it was great for her confidence.

I talked to DD this weekend and she right now is saying she thinks she would like to play one tournament in the summer.. She said she will workout hard and practice with me, but she's thinking she would like a break from the TB scene... Will that be a setback if she's not playing?

Her interest in playing next summer may change depending on what happens this fall and in the spring. If she's established herself as a mainstay and needs a break over the summer, it shouldn't hurt her. OTOH, she should be very motivated to play in the summer if she struggles and/or doesn't get substantial playing time this spring.

Thanks SoCal.. We've kind of hinted towards this and told her just to wait and think about it but the travel coach is anxious to hear and she's getting a little perturbed at us LOL...we are dropping the issue.
She actually loves the team and is feeling great about how things are going.

I'd suggest a light summer schedule if she's going to be doing a fair amount of catching during the school season as a catcher will need at least a 4-6 weeks for the body to heal and recover from the grind IME. A 23U roster should be large and include 3 catchers to cover vacation/work schedules and avoid excessive wear and tear.
