I will let him answer the "How's it going?" question but I'll fill you in on the team since I was up there yesterday and had the chance to watch as well as meet #7sDad. The team, a first year 16U team is struggling. Their leadoff batter, Pitcher and starting shortstop tore ligaments in her ankle Friday evening in the first pool play game so they're down one of their better players. The #3 batter is on vacation and won't be back until today. The #5 batter left for vacation yesterday and the #4 batter got food poisoning and had to miss yesterday. Hopefully they'll get her back today as well as the #3 before bracket play begins.

Ouch! When it rains, it pours! That is a horrible string of bad luck. I asked if she was playing 14u or 16u because my dd's old TB coach is coaching a 16u team up there. Your org made it possible for her Papa to see her play and that is awesome in itself so they get one big win in my book, a win much bigger than any other win in that tourney.

So they really needed #7 this weekend.

Sorry for the slow update. It's been an amazing weekend and we just arrived back in MA.

First off, I can't say enough about YOCOACH, the 16U team coaches, the parents, and especially the young ladies on this team. They made our family feel so special and welcome.

The girls whisked K away for warm-ups like one of their own. I knew it was going to be a fun day when one of them said hello to her by saying "How's it goin' loser?" Talk about breaking the ice.

Meanwhile, parents came over to say hello to my parents, and my DW, and me. They made room for us under their canopy and made sure my dad had a prime seat. I even discovered a couple were fellow alum Zips!

Before the game, DD was a bit nervous because she didn't want to let these older girls down. In the first inning, she had a bit of a rough start. But as the team came back to the bench, Coach Mike took her aside, said something to her, and made her smile. The weight had been lifted and she played like her old self from then on.

Between games, one of the moms even made her a sandwich to eat while she chilled with the rest of the team.

It was very hot, so Papa T didn't get to stay for game two where she got to play SS and 3B and had a number of nice put outs. Coach Mike gave her the opportunity to play all of both games.

These are some very special people we met this weekend. They didn't just let DD play, but they welcomed us in a way that felt like we were old friends. They helped us create a memory and a moment that I hope DD and her Papa can remember for a long time. I know I will.

#7sDad, it was a pleasure to meet you and your DD yesterday. I especially enjoyed talking SB with you and watching K play and enjoying herself on the field. If you ever get transferred to this neck of the woods and have to move, she'll always have a TB home with us. Your DD's a great player with an exceptional attitude and would be an outstanding addition to any team she plays for. Thank you for helping out our team this weekend.

Thanks YOCOACH. It was great to meet you as well and I can't thank you enough for making this happen. I'm looking forward to hearing how your team tryouts go. If the area players know anything about the culture you're building over there, I'm sure you'll have a great turnout and continued success!

Thank you for the kind words. We were more than happy to have a great player come and join our team helping us out and your family as well. As I said in past posts, it was a win-win for all.

I DID give you fair warning and, as you may have guessed, Arianna is a very special, talented, outgoing kind of girl ;) I coached her for years and had to give her up to our younger 16U team in order for her to achieve her dreams of possibly playing in college. It was a better fit for her at this stage in her SB career as much as I hated doing it.

As far as the culture goes, we, as an organization believe that the way to instill a sense of "family," not just teams, is to develop our players as opposed to recruiting them. The ones that have a sense of loyalty to us will always have a spot on our teams. This has allowed us to maintain a core group of girls that want to play with our organization as far as they want to go. This culture, as you want to put it, extends to those that come and sub for us. We are a Family, not just a team and I honestly believe it shows in how we play even when we're struggling due to injuries, vacations etc. etc.

If you had been able to stick around and see our younger teams play in various tournaments, you would see that the same feelings of family and welcome are true for everyone of them within our organization. We are truly blessed with this.

We would welcome you back with open arms anytime the need arises and I will surely let you know about how the tryouts went:D
