If in your mind that is all it takes to erase years progress you are weak. The women and young ladies that play this game today are much better than that. They do not need to play the victim card and are not defined by a single event. As coaches dumb statements like this represent everything we teach young ladies not to be. We already have more than enough victims. We need courageous leaders and roles models.

I don't think it's totally wrong. It was an amazing athletic opportunity that was taken away. It doesn't mean the players aren't still awesome and worthy but no matter how great they've been, they couldn't play in the Olympics.

It is one thing to say you have lost an amazing opportunity and want it back. Another to say you have been harmed and set back years. To me the latter is a victim mindset. Even in the absence of the Olympics the sport has progressed beyond anyone's expectations. Only a couple of years ago you would be hard pressed to see a game on TV. Now there is more than you can possibly watch. So what has been erased other than the games I have already watched on my DVR so I can record more?

Total victim mindset !!! Also making excuses for team USA... Olympics' or not Japan won last week.

Loving being able to be watching 300+ games on TV or streamed. ESPN/SEC rocks !!!

Also the whole family enjoyed NPF on CBS last night

Many years ago, I taught for a year at U of Central Arkansas. One of my friends there was a young Army Major, who ran the ROTC program. This particular major was a rising young star. Interesting, he was black, and had previously worked with General Colin Powell, the highest ranking African American serviceman in US history. He had had some very interesting conversations with General Powell about race and American society. To make a long story short, this young major was very much influenced by General Powell's views. Let's just say General Powell recognized the existence of racism, but refused to ever be a victim.

Since the removal of Softball from the Olympics there has been an increase in the demand for softball from what I see. Maybe it's because I'm involved more now than I was 10 years ago, but I watched a 14U game the other night on TV, I can stream games from all the big tournaments on FloSoftball and there's a $1M contract in NPF. While it's all incentive based and the actual salary is still $20K it has to start somewhere.

I wouldn't get worked up over an internet propaganda meme. Girls fastpitch is doing well and looks like it will eventually get back into the Olympics. I would say its the other way around. The Olympics erased years of progress of its ideals by voting out sports like softball and wrestling and replacing them with sports like Golf. Just a political money grab by the Olympic committee who have lost there way via corruption and bribery. The funny thing is the golfers are looking for every excuse to get out of the Olympics, so they can hang out a their posh country clubs. If you watch the news, they're dropping out like flies. If you're making millions already and on TV every week, the Olympics isn't such a big deal.

Softball does not need the Olympics. Rather the Olympics could really use softball. The IOC is about as corrupt as it gets with the possible exception of the UN. Given the ongoing corruption, international politics, and the fiasco that will be the games in Rio make me wonder if the games will really be viable in the future.

Funny about golf. They were going for the high ratings, but are losing the ratings drivers.

And riseball is certainly correct about the corruption. I will add the cost overruns. It is getting to where the worst thing that can happen to a city is to host the Olympics.

The very best thing about the Olympics, both summer and winter, is the way we get to see an in depth look at sports we normally don't follow. Fun to do this once every 4 years. Very few people follow gymnastics or track and field, but this year those are big sports.

Lesser sports benefit as well. My DS rows competitively, and a few of his collegiate championship races have made it to podcast, but the Olympic races are actually on TV. The Olympics is the only way these "fringe" sports ever get on TV, and are ever watched.
