The baby of the family, DD#3, is a working adult now. She sent me this message today:
"I think one of the greatest things you have instilled in me that I am extremely grateful for is that if you agree to a team, you stick with it. You don't quit and you don't half-a** it."
Parents teach their children continuously. The children follow their parents lead...if the parents whine and moan about how bad a team/coach/umpire is and then encourage the child to "go through the motions but don't try", then the kid will believe the way to handle similar problems when they are adults.
How do you handle a bad team/coach/umpire? You put up with it and do your best in the situation. If there is an opportunity to get on another team, you do it when you won't harm anyone.
