Credits to the NCAA catching instructors, they have been able to widen the plate approximately 4-5 inches,

Amazing how the calls are made where the catcher frames the ball, not where it touches the plate.

Be aggressive hitters , use the bat regardless

I guess my question then is why should a hitter have to swing the bat if the pitch is a ball? Why would umpires take it upon themselves to change the game per their opinions and not based upon the rule book? IMO, it doesn't matter what the catcher does with that pitch if the umpire is busting butt and doing their job. Here is a pic of my dd hitting a pitch way outside. Look where that catch's right foot is. Here is a picture where the umpire is behind the plate and exposed to the pitcher while the catcher is set up almost exclusively in the left handed hitter's batter's box. Those are balls regardless of whether they can be hit or not. My dd rarely saw a pitch over the plate.

I think those of us with NCAA pitchers would disagree on the wide strike zone.

That's ok,, would suggest you watch some replays of SEC games that were on today,BTN as well, even the announcers were seeing the widen zone.

Good catchers make a great strike zone.

Like they say if you can consistently throw it there, you probably will get the off the plate call
------------------------------

They should not have to swing, but there is a return path to the bunch on strike 3, should it be called off the plate and no swing to put the ball in play. Happens all the time, not just NCAA but that was the case today

My MS catcher who trained with J9 this winter had an umpire tell her this season that she didn't have to frame Every pitch :). Her pitcher has double digit K games. Sister playing in college frustrated by balls in the opposite batter box called as strikes (ok, it was us parents who were able to sit in the stands behind home plate :) who were frustrated.
