High School Softball Check in

What's the outlook for your team this year? I know some of you have started but our tryouts are in a few days. This year they re-arranged our conference and we actually have a very favorable schedule. 6 games are against teams with 4 or less wins. Last year there were some pretty good pitchers that are now playing in college, but this year it looks like the pitching will be poor to terrible. We have a new freshman pitcher that plays for a pretty good "A" team...she'll be our starting pitcher. I think we'll need good bats though to go very far, and fortunately we have a strong hitting team with a lot of speed at the top of the order. We also have a new coach. THANK GOD!

Our tryouts start tomorrow for jv & varsity with freshman on Saturday. Coach has asked me to film tryouts so I will be there all three days. DD is a junior that started varsity as a Freshman and Sophomore. We have 8 returning varsity players who were a pretty strong team last year. State championships are at our fields this year so fingers crossed that we aren't just spectators...

We are off to a decent start. DD is a 7th grader playing JV but did get her first varsity start last weekend. We are a pretty young team varsity wise and the JV is made up of 7th and 8th graders pulled from the middle school. We play in a very tough area which had all four teams ranked in the top ten in the state at some point last year and three of the four ranked as regular season ended. They are off to a 2-1 start for both the varsity and JV teams and all of our opponents so far have been 6A schools while we are 5A.

As the girls get more experience they will be tough to deal with. How fast they grow up is the only question. We have great coaching and great support for softball at our school. They have won four state titles and three since 2008. They have had some great players come through that have gone on to win five or six DI conference championships at four different schools, a WCWS champion, All American and All conference players, and a Team USA member. This has helped softball interest explode so the future will be bright as the younger kids behind my daughter start coming up behind her.

You're so lucky.. I hope we get to scrimmage soon.. Last year the weather was terrible so it never happened.

Starts Monday. Same schedule as last year, just switched home/away. Looking forward to a few weeks off of TB practice. Heading to the Mary Nutter Classic for a great weekend of watching college ball in 90° weather.

Tryouts start 1 Mar. DD is a freshman. Hoping she makes Varsity but I can't see how skill wise she doesn't as her school is not very strong and the coach has asked for two years to not send her to the local private Tech high school. predicted record 3-15

1-15 is my prediction.

New school, only 9th/10th graders. All varsity members are travel ball players, and a couple are D-I commits, but too much youth, not enough pitching, to win games in a really tough conference where over 90 percent of starters are year-round players.

We only play 18 games and my buddy just texted me he predicts his team at 1-17. He's the AC LOL!

We start Monday and it looks like we will be outside. Snow then next Wednesday. I don't have a prediction as to how we will do. I am so excited to get going.
