Hi,

I'm new to the forum and a first time poster- My apologies if I am posting in the wrong section.

My daughter will start 8u spring ball here soon and I'm really unsure what glove size I need to buy. She currently has 10" Mizuno and I know it's too small. When looking at glove size charts, the recommendations range from 10.5-up to 12". She's a petite child and typically plays left field.

I am looking at the Worth Liberty Advanced 12" glove, model LA120WN. The glove is discounted and the price is good. Just worried that it may be a bit too big for her. Any input is greatly appreciated.

First of all...WELCOME TO DFP! :)

For a small 8U player, I would steer you away from the 12" Worth Liberty Advanced at this time. The LA-series is great stuff (my 11yo uses a 12.5" fielders glove), but for a small 8U, it's going to be on the big and heavy side, which may affect her ability to move the glove efficiently, making fielding and catching more of a challenge. At this age, learning mechanics and confidence are critical. My recommendation would be for something in the 11"-11.5" range. Pick one that she can close fairly easily...and she likes the way it looks. As she grows in strength and ability, moving up in size and quality will become more important, but for now, getting to far ahead in those areas can limit her development.

Thank you for the info! I just wasn't sure which size to go with. I hear the Worth Liberty being praised and that's why I asked about that glove. She's a lefty and there are little to no options on trying anything out in store in my area. So, I've been kind of lost on what brand/size glove to order her. I even made a joke to my spouse and told him I didn't even take this much time selecting a husband! lol!

My dd had in 8u (and still has, first year 10u now) a 12" Mizuno. I think it's the prospect. It's the one that says Jennie Finch on it. She loves that thing.

Remember the ball is going to be smaller in 8u too, no reason to jump to a 12".

DD used a Jenny Finch glove which are pretty cheap and it worked well for her.
