I was looking for some input on the Howard Kobata DVD series. What kind of audience is it geared for? Beginner? Advanced?

Thx

I have his DVDs and he has put on a clinic for our organization. I believe that he would tell you to teach his techniques to your beginners so that they will eventually become advanced. We had 9 y/o s at the clinic that did fine.

I love them! And they work for all levels so long as you're capable of recognizing the key points for each technique. You just have to watch them over and over to absorb the info lol!

Been to his clinic with old team....there where kids ranging from 8-18 there.
I bought in to what he was selling 100%
Buy the 3 disc set and make the techniques a staple in the girls training routine.

His DVDs are for coaches/parents trying to "go to the next level". But, if you are already "at the next level", then the DVDs aren't very good.

In other words, if you don't know fielding or how to teach fielding, they are good. If you already know a lot about fielding but are looking for "more and better" hints, then they aren't helpful.

To be more concrete, I coached softball for many, many years. I didn't get anything out of them. I didn't see anything new.

I'm not saying I know everything about fielding...I don't. Someone like Cannonball could teach me "more and better" things about fielding.

As others have said, they are one of the best for beginning coaches, how to instruct their players on the best way to field etc., etc. That said, I disagree slightly with previous posters on not being able to get useful information out of them at the "advanced" levels. It's all in what you know and being able to recognize the various aspects of teaching the finer points of the instruction and how to troubleshoot the infinite problems with improper fielding techniques. If you can't do it, then this will teach the proper form and from repetitive viewing, you will quickly learn this skill.

I love the DVD's. I'm always searching for new drills and different approaches. I used to only do the drills with older kids 12U and above but more recently have found them incredibly effective (maybe more effective) with 8U and 10U where I struggle to get them to charge and attack the ball and play with speed. Howard's drills are very helpful in teaching that. You may need to tailor somewhat to your players' skill level.

Just stand on the side of the field while your DD works out and yell "YOU SLOW!" repeatedly. You'll get the same results and save some money on the DVDs.
