Is this the origin Mark H's guideline?

Baseball Discussion Group - Level swing or uppercut

It's interesting to read back through the years in these forums and see how much information has been shared. There's some good info hiding in threads from the past!

While skimming through a few of his posts http://www.discussfastpitch.com/search.php?searchid=2743819&pp= I found several other esteemed members from the past that led me to even more great posts.

IMO the wheel hasn't fundamentally changed over time, but what has evolved are our perspective and ability to see, understand, and explain how and why it works.

I haven't read through all of the links yet, but Mark H continues to promote the same principle on other forums. IMO, the "Hanson Principle" continues to be a very valuable factor in learning about hitting.

It is not my place to speak for Mark though I consider him a friend. Mark started out, like most of us, as a dad who wanted to help his daughter out. He was on the old Eteamz site but was also a member of SetPro which was Nyman's site. From there, he was a member of the "Posse" with Englishbey and is still an active member of his site. Mark is a real good guy who has helped hundreds of dads along the way. I am one of them. While Mark H came up with the principle, keep in mind that Nyman's counter to that is that a person is only capable of seeing what they are capable of seeing. IOWs, most see things on video according to their "camp" or agenda. Mark used to be a member here and posts once in a while. I'll send him a pm and see if he cares to add anything.

No. It was Tom Guerry who named it that after I said many many times, "always compare anything anyone tells you about hitting to lots of slow motion video of the best in the world".

I would add a little understanding of angular momentum and biomechanics are very helpful but the above sentence will weed out a lot of bad instruction for average dad or mom trying to figure out who to trust their kid with. It's not foolproof as shown by the Teacherman crowd but it's a very good start. Add a basic understanding of momentum and that should eliminate most of the error not eliminated by video comparison. You can google Siggys hitting for a start although I see a thread on here titled something about swing examples which may be quite good. Looked at a few of the later pages of the hall of shame thread and it gave me the warm fuzzies.

Ten to fifteen years ago I was like a new religious convert. I wanted everyone to see what I saw. Now I just focus on the kids of friends and teach in person or point them to my mentor Steve Englishbey. After doing the video comparison thing for years the only two I couldn't call horse puckey on were Nyman and Englishbey. Nyman's eccentricity makes it difficult to learn from him so...

Best of luck in your journey. Don't miss a game. You will blink and they will be off to college. Blink again and you will be waiting for your grandkids to be old enough to go watch play.

Ok, So Tom Guerry named the principal. Then who was Hanson? And why is it not called the Guerry principal?

Mark Hanson is who the principle is named after because he's the one who used to (and still does) constantly advocate for comparing information against video.

EDIT: Grammar Nazi moment...please note that principal and principle are not the same thing. Principal Hanson has a valid principle.
