First time post here so please bear with me...

I 've read/heard about the importance of ball speed off of the bat, but my question is in regards to a hit ball distance.

In your opinion, what is considered a long hit ball, on the fly, for a High School/ 16U girls fast pitch hitter? 250', 275', 300'+ ?

Thank you

Well hit? Anything that clears the fence is really well hit. But distance is more then just ball speed off the bat, a girl can hit a ball really hard and wind up with a single, or an out. Distance also depends on the trajectory, and the spin of the ball when it leaves the bat.

Isn't anything over the fence called "the long ball"? So for most high schools, that's 200 feet but at the one we practice at, it's 220 at centerfield. I'd say over the 220ft fence is outstanding, and the ball has to travel quite a bit farther than 220 to clear the fence.

As long as it clears the fence it is considered a home run, so anything more than that is just icing on the cake. That said, anything over 250 ft is a bomb and 300+ ft is a top power hitter on a major D1 program.

My guess is that most 16U travel players have never hit a ball 200 feet on the fly in a game. Some will point out that everybody on their team has done it, but those are very skilled teams of college prospects. If you're talking all 16U players of all levels of travel, I'd say most have not done it. On DD's travel team, I'd say maybe 3 can hit one 225 on the fly, and maybe 2 have done it. Very few 16U players can hit the ball 250 feet on the fly. I don't think I've ever seen a 16U hit one that far, although I don't doubt it has happened. If a 16U has hit one 300 feet on the fly, I'd like to see video. That's like a pitcher touching 70 mph.

This is interesting. I've never seen a ball hit 300' but 3 girls on my DD's travel team have gone yard in a game. Farthest one was pretty darn close to 250' and another one that would have been if hit higher it was a line drive 215ft fence. But you're right most have not hit one 200' and most don't. Yet I've been at those 12U tournaments where I hear a guy saying that some team hit 6 out in one game.

All pitchers hit 70 in a basement throwing to dad with a pocket radar.

Not here.
300 ft HR.. is when DD re-tells stories to her kids and I will agree with a wink.
