Because of the hypocrisy. Everyone was in a rage that a baseball guy was doing the WCWS. I have no problem either way but the same people that bitched about Schilling will rave about how great Mendoza will do.

If ESPN is looking to mix it up, show more softball! I think she does a great job,but would rather hear her talk softball

It's not about attracting a softball audience. It's about attracting a diverse audience (ie, men and women). One way to make your audience diverse is to make the broadcasters diverse. Get different points of view. Put simply, they want to have a female baseball analyst. Who is better qualified for that role than Mendoza?

You may be right. But I wanna see more softball on espn! You gotta get the audience first

Probably anyone woman that played on the Silver Bullet Baseball team. Just like the hundreds of men that played international fastpitch would have been more qualified than Schilling.

I for one had no problem with Schilling doing WCWS, and actually enjoyed the change. If I remember correctly he coaches a girls fastpitch softball team so he is not totally in the dark as some may think.
