My daughters team has a pitcher that has amazing movement she hits her spots and beats great hitting teams. She only hitting 56 speed wise but she's handling teams plus she is like a cat in the circle. Here the kicker she is 4'11 she is only 13 but is doesn't seem that she will be any taller than 5'3 or so.
Is there any hope for her to play at a high level?

Yes. She may not be tall but she has everything else that she needs to succeed at a high level. Amanda Scarborough is 5'5" but she pitched in the upper 60's. Even if this girl doesn't get that fast there will be a place for her in at least DII.

Depends upon what you mean by "high level".

High level D1? No. (We are talking top 25 teams in the US)
High level D3? Absolutely.
High level D2? Maybe.

Height a non-factor. If she can get to the low 60's with great movement and command of her pitches she can pitch at any level as it is already happening in the SEC, PAC-12, ACC, etc.

Sluggers, are you saying because of her height, or because of where she is currently and being 13?

buckeye:

1) What age level does she play?
2) What does she throw?
3) Does she change speeds?

cjd:

His question was "play at a high level". I know of only one kid close to that height that *plays* for a big time team... Delanie Gourley, 5'4", at Florida. She has a great rise and she knows how to change speeds.

Gourley is a great example. What exactly is the difference between a pitcher that is 5"-3" throwing low 60s and one that is 5'-10" throwing low 60s? Or are we still buying in to the myth that schools won't look at you unless you are throwing 65mph? I have a kid that is headed for a mid-major D1 that is 5"-6" who tops out at 56mph. However, she spins it at 30+ has tremendous command and makes it look like she is throwing a wiffle ball.

Throws a very good backdoor cruve, screw, change and most recently they have started throwing her rise in two championship games she has had 17 pop ups with it so I'd say its working. Thanks for the video I'll have my dd show it to her maybe it will give her some hope.
