I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but I plan on creating an app dedicated to keeping fast pitch stats (batting, pitching, catching, fielding).

I currently have an app focused on baseball that works ok for softball but have had some requests for a softball focused app. I was wondering if there was anything I should focus on specifically for fastpitch? What would you like to see in an app that keeps stats that might differ from baseball? Are there stats tracked in fastpitch that are not in baseball or even the other way around that I would take out?

Ive only played adult coed casual fastpitch tournaments (day long, weekend, fill-in, etc). For example youth baseball has pitch count limits that are very important to keep track of and so on and am a little unfamiliar with how that works here. I know that slap is a much bigger thing in softball than in baseball would you like to keep stats and avg just for "slap" hits? Things like this would be great to know.

Anyways thanks for reading and hopefully with your guys help I can get this right!

I guess I should of looked at your app before commenting. I suspect most parents won't keep very accurate stats, getting caught up in the moment of a play and not entering or not remembering correctly. Two or three times over a season can make a difference.

We score on GC and give any parent that wants the stats the data at the end of the season.

I have used Stat Track for a long time and found it does everything I need to keep track of things. About the only differences in the games are ITB and re-entry rules when it comes to keeping track of everything.

Slapping is just a different style of batting and a hit is a hit no matter what they do. The most important stat for slappers is the OB%. How effective is the slapper at pressuring the defense into making errors, forcing walks, bunting and hitting? All of those can be quantified with the current standard stats.

Is this an app where you manually enter stats that get generated over the course of a game? Or is it a scorekeeping app?

Manually entering stats on a personal level. Most of the users of my baseball app are parents keeping track of their children's stats game by game but ive had requests for a "softball" based app so thats why I came here.

I agree with what you have said a parent in most cases couldnt keep track of a whole team and thats why my personal stat tracker is so popular it allows them to focus on just their kid or kids rather than a whole team. GC is very nice software but can be costly and not every team uses it so some times parents need something else. On that same point there are some parents that dont even trust the coaches scoring so they would rather have a personal app dedicated to just their kid.

I understand slapping is just a style of hitting and it would work into an average just as "regular" hitting would but ive had a few requests for separate stats based just on that (I assume so they can break down whats working for them) and then in the end a totaled average.

That does give me an idea of how to break down the slap hitting within the app though so thanks.

Does the app allow you to create spray charts? I assume that's where you'd want to add the type of hit - line drive, fly ball, bunt, slap, etc. I can see that being a useful stat to track.

I am always amazed at how much higher a players batting average becomes when their mom or dad are keeping the stats......I would bet it is worth .100-.150!

At least!

I know that for my rec girls, we are VERY generous on hits vs errors. I have girls that hit >.600 last season, but really around .111 lol!
