I think you have a very good idea here (targeting crazy/loving parents with a relatively simple stat tracker) and see you do a football tracker too. I would imagine it wouldn't be too hard to build other sports on top of your engine. Keep diversifying and I think your success will be exponential. Best of luck to you...

Thanks! The funny thing was when I was in college studying CS and in a lot of intramurals I got the idea for a project and the rest is history. I actually do most major sports (soccer, football, baskeball, baseball, track, swimming & hockey). You are right on i use the same engine and build other sports on top of it =). If you search touchmint on the app store you should see them all i even have a bundle with all of them in there haha.

Anyways thanks for the ideas guys I am in the process of rebuilding the database for the suggested stats and figuring out how I can make it user friendly with all these new options. Feel free to keep suggesting I will put in as much as I can.

Extremely catcher-specific, and requires denotation during actual game scoring, but being able to track successful blocks with runners on base (i.e., no runner advance) would be a stat of value.

Great just what I'm looking for. I actually had planned on giving catching its own little section.

Would this work?

3 stats
block chances - pitches the catcher received that could have resulted in wild pitch or passed ball. (with runners on base)
blocks - actual blocks that could have resulted in wild pitch or passed ball (with runners on base)
block % (block chances / blocks)

These would be advanced stats apart from passed balls although passed balls would auto increment block chances.

Let me know if you think of anything else useful.

I am always amazed at how much higher a players batting average becomes when their mom or dad are keeping the stats......I would bet it is worth .100-.150!

A game this week. Leadoff hitter first AB hits a hard, but routine grounder so SS who airmails throw to first. Second time up grounder to SS who boots it, third time up ball up middle. After game SK DD 3-3. Next game my daughter hit one to right goes right. RF had ball go right between her legs for a triple. I really wish it had been to the side so maybe I could let is slide, but I'm asking after the game how that can be a triple.

Another inning we don't get one out of the infield except DD's bloop single but wind with with 6 hits. I counted 5 errors and 3 FC's, but none in book.

On defense it's the other way, everything's an error(guess who pitches).

My favorite stat variation recently was missing strikeouts for the batting team. I get the "confusion" behind fielder's choice, but strikeouts are about as straightforward as it comes and the other team omitted 4 of them when posting their stats.

For the app, I like the idea of being able to distinguish between pitches thrown off the plate on purpose (in 0-2, 1-2 type situations) and pitches that are just balls. It would be great to see a true strike % after adjusting for these pitches.

TBH Thats a big reason why I have parents using my stats app.

While some parents might score their kids games higher its in their hands to be honest. When you have a bias coach or scorer mis-scoring other kids its a whole different story.

While I could add something like that I think it would be very hard to judge (not saying anyone would lie but whos to say I didnt throw that ball on accident and how would you know besides asking the pitcher? (yes there are signs given but still)). It might also be a bit confusing to users.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are going for?

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on the app progress. I added advanced catching stats (block, wp, block %%, etc) as requested and basing pitching off 7 innings instead of 9 innings (k/7 bb/7 era/7 etc). Now I am just working on design things such as ease of use and just making things look better overall. For example i changed how hits are entered (you now enter 1b, 2b, 3b or hr and hits auto add as suggested).

I also wrote the framework for a spray chart but Im not sure how it will fit in since it seems to complicate things for my test users atm. At the very least once I update down the road I can get it added in but right now I am leaning towards keeping the apps core concept on actual stats.

Thanks again for all the suggestions I think they really helped and I will be getting anyone on these forums free copies of the app once its released.
