So I'm in Akron (OH) this weekend for a funeral. There happens to be a few 10u travel ball teams staying at my hotel. I recall a DFP member who mentioned an eastern nationals qualifying tournament being played in a dome in the area. I have never seen a softball game played inside a building so I travel 15 miles to the Spano Dome. I pay my $5 entry fee we and spend the next 1.5 hours watching the Ohio Lightening defeat the Ohio Sun Dogs 4-3. The facility is all dirt and balls hit to the ceiling are outs. Vary interesting and fun to watch. I got my softball fix this weekend.

Have I completely lost my mind?

Nope...DD's team played the first half of winter there in a winter league. The rules can be a little challenging at first if you don't know them but other than that, it's usually a good time.

Edit to Add: If you wake up feeling like you're hungover, there's some air quality issues to say the least.

Along those same lines, I had a thought last night as I was watching live video of the North Dakota State v. University of the Pacific game... what are the odds that a mere 5 years ago I would have thought that that was a great way to spend a Friday night?

Ahhh, you got to experience the Death Dome! It is a staple of NE OH Fastpitch. It's nice to be on the dirt, but I'm not crazy about the antibiotics I have to take when DD plays there... Lol.

Nothing like breathing the moist air in the dome, but still a great time. Love the place. Dd missed out this year because of her bad hip from cross/country.

Yes, the air was like being in a sweaty locker room but the alternative was being outside in 15 degree weather.....do feel bad for the families that have to play today and drive in 8 inches of snow to get home. My 7:30am flight to SoCal is on time....might be able to make DS baseball game this afternoon if it's not raining?

I wish I'da known you were coming. I would have met you for the game and a beer after:D
As far as the snow goes, we're used to it so it doesn't bother us to drive in it....much...lol Safe travels home!

There is a new indoor facility in our area (it's about 80 miles south of Seattle). You would think there would be more places like it around here considering how much it rains in the spring/fall. It's nice to get a tournament in without even thinking about rain. And the air quality is good, too. :)
