Not sure if any of you have had a chance to watch this show,When I first started watching it I totally expected full on cheese ball that would be a waste of my time but after the 3rd episode last night I'm finding that it contains some very good insight and info. It does actually make you look at yourself and how you interact with young athletes.

Yea the first episode was as expected - second one had a few insights and the third episode finally had some meat - still a lot of over the top stuff (I dont buy they are THAT bad - I think a lot of it is for show given they are being filmed) - Now if they had a partner show called Parent in the Stands BAD it would be fun... they should at a minimum bring those BAD bleacher parents and make cameo apearances... watch the sparks fly lol

This show was hard to watch at first, took me 3 times to get through it. Once I did however I was able to see some good things too. I believe that some coaches are that bad. Personally I wouldn't have given most of them another chance. The guy that asked the little boy if he was really the fastest one of his daddy's sperm.... WTF? I wonder how any parent ever allowed their kid to go to more than 1 practice. I sure wouldn't! The scary thing is parents actually pay for this.

You are absolutely right, the parents are the enablers for this type of conduct. I always try to keep my hands to myself, but some of these coaches might get me to make an exception. But for sure, I wouldn't pay for my child to be treated like a Recruit in Marine Corps Boot Camp from back in the day. My oldest DD watches some dumb dance show about a lady who treats these little girls and their mom's horribly and everyone is surprised at how she treats the kids, while I'm surprised that these mom's fight to have this lady work with their daughters.

I heard the stories from vets from back in the day at the island. From what I have heard the opening scenes in Full Metal Jacket was a pretty fair representation.

Similar shows are Friday night tykes and the short game. Very addicting for the wrong reasons.

I watched a bunch of Friday Night Tykes while snowed in and you're right - some of it was good, a lot of it was not so good and I couldn't stop watching. There was one scene in practice where they have these 10 year old kids running full speed into each other, that was very disturbing as you could see some of the kids wobbling and crying as they tried to get up. With all the concern about head injuries I can't believe coaches would not just allow, but encourage this type of drill in practice.

I come from a long line of Marines, so I was expecting the worst when I joined. I cannot even try to say that I would have been able to make it back then. It was hard enough in the 90's when I went to bootcamp. The name calling and some of the punishments were definitely still a part of the game when I was there, but I was never hit by a drill instructor. They usually made us accidentally hit ourselves by slapping our rifles towards our face or some other awesomely creative way to make us know we messed up.
