Taking out a player

We were playing last weekend at surfcity and during one of our games my DD was playing ss with one out and a runer on 1st and DW and I were sitting along the out of play fence on the first base side when I hear the 1st base coach tell his kid to TAKEOUT the player covering the bag to stay out of a double play. Now I'm pretty sure he meant to breakup the play and not take her out but I wonder how that would go over with some of you if you heard a coach say take out a player and she actually got hurt vs. a player getting hurt with a coach saying break up the play.

IMO, this is one of those HTBT situations. Again IMO, it is never right for a coach to tell a player to intentionally hurt another one whether it is to "take her out" or to tell a pitcher to intentionally "plunk" a batter. However, as quincy said, the coach may have misstated his/her intentions. No matter the coach's intention, IME, what comes around goes around and the girls usually find a way to "make it right" in their eyes. How many times have you seen a Pitcher get hit at the plate because she plunked another player from the opposing team?

No harm intended IMO. From a baseball perspective, the term "take-out slide" does not imply going after or trying to hurt a player. It is synonymous with the instructions of sliding to prevent a double play.

I agree I doubt there was an intent to harm another player. My thing was using the word " takeout " as the term to use instead of "breakup the play" or some other term .......I could see an opposing team getting pretty be bent out of shape if a player got a knee injury or something after he heard an opposing coach say this to his baserunner. I'm sure there have been instances where a runner has had the oppertunity to breakup a double play but in my recollection I can't remember seeing one that would determine if the double play was made or not being that the game is so fast if the throw isnt made before the runner is on the ss at the bag there would be no chance anyway to turn it.

Softball rules are different than baseball in this situation. Baseball rules generally allow the runner to go after the fielder as long as the runner is within reach of the bag. The same slide in softball can result in an interference call and the B-R being called out.
