DD plays on a travel team in Minneapolis that is 4 hours from our home. To make it work, she lives with my in-laws during the summer and spends numerous weekends with them in the off-season for practices and such. So we rely on my in-laws A LOT, to put it mildly. DD has lived with them the last three summers, and we're definitely planning on a fourth beginning in June.

But it's my father in-law who really gets involved. He attends team meetings for us. He takes my daughter to every practice, every game, and every lesson. He is absolutley the most out-going and friendly person I've ever met. I can't count the number of times when I've met another parent within DD's organization and when I explain who I am and who my daughter is invariably I will hear, "Oh, I met your father in-law a few weeks ago and he told me all about you. What a great guy!" He just loves being involved.

Two weeks ago my father in-law went to the doctor due to stomach pain and since then the news keeps getting worse: colon blockage, immediate surgery required, tumor removed, pathology positive for cancer, and finally, stage 4 adenocarcinoma. Been a TOUGH two weeks.

DD is a 2017 grad and just verballed. The new goal is for my father in-law to be able to see her play in her first college game. The odds aren't great, but he's going to fight, and he deserves it more than anyone.

That is really sad news 29dad. That f&ucking disease is the source of so many missed memories and sadness. He sounds like a great guy and I hope he gets to see her take the field before he move on.

We're all hoping for the best.

You never know about these things. My father-in-law wasn't supposed to have made it past 1996, but he's still alive and healthy and even goes to work every day.

You have told me the story before and I have been so jealous. My parents live near Minneapolis, and my in laws live 30 minutes from us. Long story short, my folks watched one of my dd and I tourneys EVER, and left early because it was "too hot", and my other dd, just got excepted to the olympic development soccer team...they have never seen her play. My in laws have seen all of my brother in laws kids games (they live a few blocks from them) but non of my kids. My kids know and show it too. My oldest said "maybe if we lived in Vegas or Florida gpa and gma would hang with us some more"
Sorry to share my bummer, but just want to say your father in law is a special man, prayers and belief for healing!

I recently lost my father to stage 4 cancer of the kidney, liver, lymph nodes and pancreas. He never got to watch a single game that my DD played in HS. She worked her butt off during the winter and was the starting pitcher on the Varsity team as a Freshman. She so badly wanted her grandfather to watch one of her games, but he passed away too soon before the season started. Cherish every moment you have with your father in-law. Him being from Minnesota he is near one of the best cancer centers in the country.

My son works in the medical marijuana industry. I would certainly investigate it, if I was in your FIL's situation. All my best to him and your family.

Positive vibes coming your way.......

Some unsolicited advice....

Betty Crocker makes a cancer cook book with really good recipes to treat ailments and side effect of treatment. Tasty for whole family but really good for patients. Cream of wheat is a great source of iron to keep lab levels up and easy to swallow, in case treatment meds cause mouth sores.

Thoughts and prayers
