Looking for ideas, photos, etc on installing some type of batting cage in a garage. Have. 3-car garage and have some extra space now that I got a shed in my back yard. Was hoping to do front toss since I have a collapsible L-screen but not sure about how to set up the netting with the two garage door openers and door tracks. Or, at a minimum, maybe hitting into a net but don't want to damage the drywall.

When you set up the netting you will need to either stay off the walls by @ 2' to avoid holes in the drywall, or you will need to put some type of plywood in front of the drywall to protect it. To set up a front toss station you will need @ 25' x 12', but you might be able to go a little smaller.

netting

I put netting up to cover my shelves and then just used a screen, tcb balls, tcb wiffles, and diamond foam balls. I really like the foam balls.

In my basement, I simply installed three steel cables from end to end (30' long basement). They are anchored into the cement walls. I went 9' wide x 8' tall and 28' long with a large piece of carpet at one end to act as a backstop.
I ordered the netting from battingnets.com they have a custom builder program.
It's a little cramped compared to a regular cage, but it's just big enough to do front toss from approximately 23' and I'm behind my screen.
I also had a vinyl screen made that is a batter and a catcher with a batters box overlayed (it hangs against the carpet) Works great for pitchers in the offseason.
Then a friend of mine who manages a carpet store calls me a says he has a large roll of astro turf that's green when his customers had ordered tan, it was company error and he'd have to write it off as a loss. So he sold it to me for $200!
I'll post pics as soon as I get the turf glued down and the new lights.

Lets just hope Casey doesnt put one through the carpet into the side of your boat!!!
LOL

I give lessons 3- 4 days a week. Only thing that gets hit once in awhile is the trailer, balls going under the net.
The sides are curved. They can hit opposite field, both ways and the balls fall straight down.

Every time I post a picture people cringe at students smacking the boat..;)

I have a pretty simple system. 2 car garage with just enough room for a new Pathfinder.
I bought a 10' x 36' baseball net from greenbowsports.com for $60.

We use 2 Ts and a pitching mat for foot positioning. And ATEC 12" nerf softballs - closeoutbats.com had them for $10/dz couple weeks ago. With the door open we have a little bit more space. With it closed, I use 2 buckets of softballs to prop the net forward away from the garage.
I like this set up a lot and we use it almost daily for T work drills. She never comes close to hitting the car, so it can be in or out.

Straight leg.....Good idea to have curved sides and nice setup. Which I had that much space.

Mfosterwa....how did you hook up the netting with the garage door track & opener?

I bought 4 of these hooks from home depot and screwed them into the ceiling rafters

Crown Bolt 5/16 in. x 7 in. Screw-In Utility Hook-01217 at The Home Depot

the net has plenty of extra to run under the opener track and the hooks are set just over a foot inside the door and just above the door track. One thing to note - its a rectangular 10x36 net.... makes 3 sides, no top.

We don't have it up permanently, it only takes a few minutes to put up or take down.
We were lucky to have a 70' day today (tomorrow 30s), so I had the door open. In this case, I dont use the front hooks by the opening - I have a couple nails in the wall above the door to hang the net from. Still, the net is long enough to go under the door.

Generally, with the Ts, my DD hits it straight. The net on 3 sides basically keeps the balls from rolling down the drive.

DD loves it. We have a membership at a cage 20' away.... we'll probably have to start driving out there this week for indoor pitching and batting with the temps dropping. But, its been great to hit 100 or so balls after school at home !
