A very similar thing happened to my DD with her softball scholarship. Although her new coaches didn't cut the previously recruited players until the end of their season.
Thankfully my kid ended up in a better place with a better scholarship offers so my heart goes out to these young ladies.

I hope there is more to this because it is a low, pointless move otherwise.

You cut for cause (which is justifiable at any time) or you cut for performance at the beginning/end of season to give them time to transfer to another program if they can.

You don't cut once the school year is started and you don't have the ability to change programs. This will lead to big recruiting issues down stream.

We will find out soon enough.

It happens at other schools and other sports, I have a friend who is a baseball pitcher who was done much the same way. He made an early commitment and then was told by Georgia at the last minute his scholarship offer would not be honored.

Another story, from Georgia.

The difference here is that these are recruits - not already at the university enrolled and taking classes. Yes it sucks for them that they need to go back into the recruiting process, but at they have at least the opportunity to now find a new program and not lose a year of eligibility.

Wow! I can't see this happening the way it was reported. This is October, for God's sake! But, locally the college coach did send the girl's texts that they would not be returning to the team. But, that was after the season.

Either way IMO it gives the program a black eye.

????From what I read in the article they were in Knoxville, enrolled at the school, taking classes and attending practices.

Always have a plan B!
