You've been a loyal customer of a Brand X for several years. With normal wear and tear, a bat fails 10 months after purchase. Your 12yo DD has had a small growth spurt over the past year and is now ready for a larger bat.

Would you request the next size up? Or would that be considered poor form?

FWIW, she's committed to this particular brand anyway, but depending on any number of factors, getting a larger bat at no cost right now could mean a cost savings to our family in the long run. She already recommends their bats to all her friends.

I don't know who Brand X is but I can speak about what Easton will do - my DD's bat had an internal failure after less than 8 months. They will send you the exact same bat that you are warrantying. If that model is out of date, they will send you the replacement model - and it will be stamped "not for resale". They will not allow you to change the size or upgrade the model.

In our case we got the replacement bat and put it on Craigslist (at quite a discount) clearly disclosing that while it was brand new in the package that it was not eligible for the manufacturer's warranty. Then we took the money that we got for the bat and put it towards the bat that she wanted.

Doesn't hurt to ask.

I can't think it poor form at all when the cost of a replacement (or two) is built into your initial purchase. FWIW, I have know folks who received a different size simply by asking. Not saying you'll score like they did, but you might. :D

In past LS and DeMarini have with no problem. In fact when cf6's first came out and were blowin' up, they were suggesting to people that were sending in returns to size up. Also, I know LS has replaced LXT with Xenos or vice versa when requested.

I did ask - and they said no. I talked to a supervisor - and they said no.

DeMarini said I can get any size I want for the replacement bat. Sent in a 30/20 got a 32/21 in return.
