I was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the yellow dimpled softballs used in batting cages and regulation softballs in regards to your batting performance. I've heard some say a real softball has more pop to it while others have said dimpled balls give you more distance. Can anyone clarify the performance differences for me?

The dimpled cage balls are a dense rubber and compress a lot more than real balls. The extra compression results in a lesser hit ball to protect the netting and frame of the cage, or in some cases the pitcher. Real balls will recoil much harder off the bat. I recommend cage balls and a cheap bat that is identical in size to her game bat while in the cage.

I would not recommend hitting dimple balls with a composite bat!!! Some pitching machines require dimple balls, but if you are doing front toss I would recommend using real softballs.

I like the "fence buster balls" for wet grass, if your worried about getting the balls wet, the cage balls can come in different densities some fly better than others, but real balls are best. We used to use dimpled baseballs for the wet season in Oregon, I think it created some injuries might have just been the added weather we played in with them, lots of sore arms ect. they don't feel the same or react the same I don't like kids throwing them, in my opinion they are for the Pitching machine only.
