During a recent tournament, I was hanging out and observed a PC approach an umpire after a game, at which time she said the following:

PC: "Hi, do you have a moment?"

Umpire: "Yes, what can I help you with?"

PC: "Well, I'm the pitching coach for both of the ____ ______ pitchers and I was wondering if you could tell me where they were missing, because most of those pitches looked like strikes to me."

The site director and I quickly moved away from that spot, so I cannot tell you what the reply was, but I will say that it was a very brief exchange as the umpire was walking away in under 5 seconds.

I wish I were making this up, but we both got a good chuckle out of that one.

Well, my mom when she played back in the late 70s early 80s was a pitcher. She called time once while she was pitching and asked the ump where is strike zone was? She didn't get thrown out but, his strike zone got a little smaller.

Last year during a pool play, during a time out my DD and her catcher were talking and my DD yelled said loud enough for everyone to hear "I can't throw that pitch she's not giving me the corners!" yes I was laughing and yes we did loose that game, luckily we did not draw that umpire again that weekend.

We had an idiot umpire one evening at a TB tourney. Anything less than right down the middle, waist high, was a ball. It was our last game of the evening on Saturday ( like 8pm ) so I knew getting kicked wouldn't hurt us too much. By the 4th inning I was pissed and had enough!! I called time mid inning, kicked dirt over the plate, took my two fingers and drew a line right down the center of the plate, told the ump "there's your fuc#ing? strike zone".

Needless to say, for some reason I made it to the parking lot before anyone on my team did.

C'mon! Admit it, you were just thirsty and needed an excuse.

I probably went "big" more than I should have. A close call I was always respectful, a blown call by the rules, well it wasn't pretty. Over the years I had a procedure, I'd turn to the girls in the dugout, tell them coach probably won't come back. "See ya coach", "ok", "good luck", were always the norm. My DD who knows me best, "meet you at the truck, dad, after the game".

I'd give anything to get tossed now. I sure miss working with the girls.

Hmm, around here at least in USSSA if you get tossed you can't coach the next game either. So get tossed on Sat night and you can't be there for the first game of bracket play on Sunday. And all the umpires at the park will be asking the assistant on Sunday morning for the scoop because everyone knows when a coach gets tossed.

When you're ejected during a game, you have to leave the vicinity and no contact with the team. The next game you can't "coach" in an official capacity, but you can be there. I'm not a morning person to begin with, so missing/coaching that early game never hurt my feelings. I was more of a late Sunday coach. :)
