When my dd verballed, they did not sign a player for the previous year. They were also graduating a lot of seniors. Therefore, more money was available if you committed early.
I have seen several college recruitment boards. They list their priority recruits in order which also is a hint at the money they are willing to hand out. When my dd went on one official visit, they saw a recruitment board. Player was friend of dd. As they walked down the stairs to begin the campus tour, that young lady mentioned that she knew who was getting the biggest offer. LOL!
