That is ridiculous. Think of being the batter and getting set for the pitch then all of a sudden you hear someone scream "curve" or "rise". If anything, this has to be distracting. The only voice that should be in the batter's head is her own.

And on top of that, it is only a guess on the coach's part as unless the coach's vision is good enough to calibrate the Hubble telescope, there is nothing to be seen that is going to dictate what pitch is coming.

And if the coach wants to play mind games, show'em the damn grip. Then strike out the batter. :)

I lean towards your way of thinkin MTR - but did you see the Mizzou coach doing it with all that intensity..???? I am pretty sure he thinks it can be part of the game for him & his team.

I might guess he is only doing this with his cagey upper-classmen,... but only those that were there on the first base line could tell us.

Anyone there at that Mizzou game that could elaborate on this pitch-stealing?

I find it completely befuddling that a BIG D1 school. like Mizzou, (and there are others I am seeing - MI State another example), have such a "shortage" of pitchers that can get it above 60mph (with multiple pitch movement).

Are we just seeing a nationally "weak" crop of underclassmen pitchers in college right now? On a cycle or something?

Cuz I have been to way too many 16U/18U exposure events this year that have a plentitude of 60+ movement pitchers....

RB,

Mizzou's #2 pitcher quit abruptly during the season putting them in a terrible position. It all boils down to the scholarship #'s being so low in softball. It's hard to stockpile a aresenal of top notch pitching. Look @ Arizona.

"Look @ Arizona." Let's don't. :(

Watching that Arkansas pitcher wore me out. She squats to 8 inches from the ground, every pitch.

Jr, I was wondering the same thing on the knee.
Amy, I have to agree, it wore me out too.

I don't see Missouri making it to the end but they do have some excellent hitters. OU is a serious hurtle for any team to have to overcome. My Longhorns are about to face that hurtle this week.

Maybe that pitcher who left him had enough....

My daughter, and several girls went to the Missouri's three day summer camp last year....and according to several girls on our team and other teams whom I know, said the coach has to be one of the most egotistical and meanest coaches ever. Of the 300+ kids that were there, he told them in his closing speech that "maybe 4-5 of them" had a chance to play in his program and for the rest of them.... "don't come back"....this same message was confirmed by several different girls in attendence. One girl, who is a pitcher and I know quite well, was throwing and her top speed is 61 / 62....when he came by to observe, the dude asked her "why are you here?"...."we are only looking for pitchers who can throw 65 and over"....too many different girls, form different teams told the same story so it would hard not to believe it....

However, I will say the winter before, I took my DD to one of his hitting clinics (in which I stayed and watched) and I actually spoke to him and the HC was nothing but a gentlemen....and his speeches to the players was fine....maybe when parents are around he "rolls" a little different....

Ya her squat and then I think it was the Ole Miss vs Miss State game where a pitcher there was bending at the waist on every pitch at the speed of a Whooping Crane in full mating dance. Both those girls motions made me wince in pain EVERY pitch. The Arkansas girl seemed to survive but the Ole Miss pitcher was grabbing her back by the 4th or 5th inning. How is it that these girls do not get these motion "badnesses" ironed out before now I will never know.....

Yeah I kinda like the Bill Hillhouse approach about getting rid of any wasted motion that is not going to have a great effect on your pitching. That makes perfect since to me.
