14U and we keep offensive and defensive stats and have been since 12U. Yes, stats are shared with the girls.

How are they going to know what needs work if they don't know their strengths and weeknesses?

The only thing I've got from the stats is that the scorekeeper's DD is always the leading hitter on the team, even if she is batting 9th.

No, I've never done it.

LOL, this is the first time my dd has been on a team that handed out a stat sheet. I know when it was handed out some of the girls said it was wrong because they say they have RBI's. I like it and I think most of the girls like it.

Interesting. How are stats going to tell them what they need to work on?

We had out stats a couple of times a year and have done so since 12U. We stress that stats never tell the whole story. For example, a couple of years ago, we had a player that hit in the upper 200s BUT led the team in game winning RBIs. So, stats are simply one element of the game. I do dread it each and every time they are handed out since I know there are several potential problems with doing so.

I keep stats for offense but basically only look at BA, OBP, SLUG, K/PA, BB/K

I use all to tweak my lineup. I can't keep track in my head of how 12 girls are performing. I swear a girl did great last weekend and when I looked at the book she only got one hit and got on base one other time in 8 PA's. What I remember was her one hit, where she stayed alive for 10 pitches and finally sat on and drove a changeup into left field for a single. I was so impressed with that at bat that it over shadowed the rest of the weekend in my mind.

FYI, Our bookkeepers daughter isn't getting any favors from Dad. If anything he's harder on her than the rest. She's a dragger/slapper and he's more likely to give her a ROE than a Single on a close play at first base.

No. I have found that they just cause headaches. There are too many ways to score hits and errors.

For example, a DD hits a ground ball to SS that goes through her legs. It was easily catchable. It rolls to the fence. Technically, that is a hit - but would have been an out 9 times out of 10, and it could have resulted in a double play. But in mom and dad's eyes DD just hit a HR. They don't want to hear any different.

We keep stats, I believe it is a valuable took to me. Just like
Snocatz, I would think a certain girl did well and in fact wasn't or just the opposite, a girl who I thought didn't have a good weekend actually performed her job very well.

I would call that an error all the way

Another big one is FCs. So many girls hit into these and think they're getting good hits because they reach base.

I keep stats for myself to get a good idea of what the kids are doing. gives me an unbiased view of results.

I find the coaches DD and her friend who are batting 1 and 2 in the order have the 2nd and 3rd lowest OBP. Interesting but it won't change.

Some of the girls we perceive as not being strong at the plate actually have stats that prove otherwise. Sometimes you see girls at the beginning of the season and even though you work with them, you don't see how much they are improving until you can step back and see their stats.
