You forgot the magical equation:

HS sb is mostly a joke.

It is mostly recreational players with recreational coaches with bad umpiring.

This family only had peace in HS when this is thoroughly understood.

(And this is coming from a D1 HS that does very good in the W/L column)

HS sports are long term investments, like Hal says, "you only get out of it what you're willing to put into it".
Just my 2 cents bud.

Thx GoingDeep... appreciate your time. I will re-think (more like think) as you suggested, and made the key points for me.

DD is limited to no D1 schools in 25 miles. She is in the eyes of all 3 surrounding area D2 HS Coaches. The one she attends is the weakest. Been to State (semis) twice in last 10yrs. Her TB Coaches daughters HS team (7 mi away) went last two in a row... final 4 (DD has played for both of the coaches on that team) . But our TB practices are held at a school (19 mi.away) where they have one of the best pitchers in state, and should win it all this year. This HS Coach is at our practices. So I'm in a mixed up situation to start with. I'm not from around here. I graduated HS from a school 20mi south... D3.

As Amy and I have pointed out before, for some of you, HS softball is a joke. In my area, it is serious. We put on a tournament each year that has some of the top talent/teams in Southern Illinois. It is not uncommon to see a college coach or two at this tournament. We will fill the parking lot up and so have to use golf carts to transport spectators from other parking lots up at the high school.

A different perspective for the politics angle. My dd was accused from the time she started as a freshman that she only played due to politics and me being her dad. She went 11-0 threw some no hitters, won the conference championship game, ... in the circle and yet, some parents of JV pitchers had a meeting with AD complaining about politics. She started as an OF and hit 5th when she didn't pitch. She was 2nd in hitting. Yet, some JV OF parents wanted a meeting with the AD. IMO, they hurt their dds because they continued to focus on "politics" which gave their dds an excuse to stop playing. JMHO!

In your face
We are in the same boat as CB, HS ball is not taken lightly. We play in some large 50+ high school tournaments that include teams from 7 states. And like CB, if you know who to look for, there are college coaches there.

Come state playoff time there will be a good number of college coaches, from D1 to Juco. Our SS got her first "look" ( D1 signed now ) during state.

I really like HS ball. Anyone can put a top tier travelball team together if you have enough money and resources. Putting a top HS team together takes hard work for many years because your talent is localized and you can't just recruit who you want.

We have no big tournaments in high school-yet our team (2012) has three Signed D1 players 2 Pac Ten and one SEC. We graduate 250 in our class. We have never seen a scout, no middle school softball, only travel team coaches at games. We are the second largest town in the county. And only have one D1 Softball School in the state. I think our team could compete with most states high schools, but not top twenty PGF teams. I wish they would give us State Champs a chance to play other states. High School Ball is who has the best travel team players. We have placed in the top three since 1995 in State. And I can tell you its not the coaching at the high school level-its the travel coaches who wish the high school doesn't ruin their hard work. High School is a glorified rec league by most. You guys are lucky!

Ya folks I apologize for the rant on HS again. I will not do that again.

We have the same kind of structure in our state too where a bunch of in-state fanfare is made around one really big tourney an a few other satellite ones.

I get cranky on the topic of HS because of two things:
1. In my DD’s HS team most all the players really are there just to pass the time. Rec-league players.
2. Even the best state-winning team here couldn’t beat a good B-level TB team and would get absolutely killed by any A-level TB team.

Like I said – I apologize again for going after the HS thing.

in our town the same guy that runs the travel (daddyball) teams, runs the school team. and he has made it perfectly clear that if you choose to play for any other travel team,or train (outside the circle) as they say. then your not welcomed on the school teams???
UPDATE: i did hear that some parents have been trying to do something about this? but not sure how it's going?

I think this could be good... maybe. Getting some consistency. Only problem is that if they don't make it to state, or the top 50 nationally in TB, then its time to get all new people. TB & HS

I think it is horrendous. HS ball is for high school students, not a feeder/try out program for ANYONE other than the players regardless of their intent or path off campus. On general principle alone, I wouldn't waste my time with the AD. I'd be in front of the school board.
