It's one and done. Not really streamed live, but info can be found at Illinois Elementary School Association -- I will add that the stats on that site are not accurate though.

Schools play about 20 regular season games. The schools are divided into two classes based on student enrollment. The classes are then separated by geographic sectionals then again into 5/6 team regionals. The regionals are then seeded by the coaches.

So after regular season you play 2/3 regional games, the final is considered a regional champion. Winner goes to a sectional final and the champion of the sectional goes to the eight team state tournament. Again all these games are one and you are done. Most teams only have one good pitcher.

The IESA has sanctioned softball since 1978 and went to two classes in 2001.
There were 192 school registered with the IESA. There is also another organization for schools in the southern part of the state (south of vandalia). Plus I believe many schools in the Chicago area do not play middle school ball or do not belong to the IESA.

Was rooting for Mattoon in Class AA since I coach or have coached almost all the kids on the team at one time or another. Casey is another area team that has a couple of kids that I coach in the summer.

Middle school and high school are a big deal in our area. Many of the summer teams are basically made up of players from the same school. However, a few teams like mine have kids from four or five schools.

Our middle school ball in East Tn (Knox Co.) is non-sanctioned. Girls can still play travel during the season. However, all teams in the league are comprised of girls who go to that school, unless your school does not have a team. Those girls may play at the closest school that has a program. Forty bucks gets you two jerseys and covers fields and insurance. You suply pants, belt and socks. There are both JV and varsity teams. Eighth graders cannot play JV. DD is sixth grader plays JV. We play ASA rules, three game preseason warm up, ten regular season games and a post season tourney. Most games are played during the week, but we have two today. Go Lady Panthers!
