Mike, We're working on it. We have actually run our MLK weekend camp in CA the last 3 years, and hit up both the San Jose and San Diego areas last year. We're trying to secure a host/field/facility somewhere in the L.A/San Diego & San Francisco areas. In fact, we'd love to hit Southern CA and Northern CA in consecutive weekends this winter. If you, or anyone else for that matter, know of any potential hosts, have them contact me here or at roadtrips@catchingcamp.com.

How many participants would be needed to host a camp?

Based on my experience with hosting Jay and the fine NECC crew a couple of years ago...

Sort out a venue first. Getting people to show up is a much easier task.

In So Cal (or any place with nice weather all year long), a field is preferred, but you will also need a backup indoor facility in case of rain. Locking down an indoor facility was my biggest challenge. Getting a place to hold a spot for us JUST IN CASE of bad weather - but with no guarantee that the facility would be used - was pretty tough.

If you are in an area of the county where being outdoors is probably not an option, you can focus on finding an indoor facility. However, if it's a place that has private catching instructors, they may not be so thrilled with the idea of another program coming in to teach their potential clients.
