Any advice that I can pass on to DD on dealing with really bad pitching? First fall ball game with new team was the other night and in the two innings the there were less than ten total strikes thrown. The vast majority were two or more feet outside or inside or four or more feet high. This of course put DD in a bad position to defend against base runners. I was afraid DD would be frustrated but she seemed ok knowing that she did what she could given the circumstances. I'm just worried that with a tournament coming up this weekend that five more games like this could really get her frustrated or even make her lose confidence in herself. So any advice either for me or her? Thanks for your help.

Games can be brutal, DD might have been pitching against you.

HC, game ball goes to Sally she got a hit.

DD if you throw the ball in same state she is swinging.

I do think it is easy to unwind.

(DD gave me an earful, ump was talking to her when she was at bat. There was 0 chance they were going to throw a Strike. Ump was bored too.)

She should treat it just like ant other at bat against good pitching. She is looking for a pitch in her "hit zone". If it's not there, she lays off the pitch. If she gets walked 3 times, so be it.

On a separate topic, I would question the value of having DD play on a team or in a league that is way beneath her. At the end of the day, does she want to get better or play mediocre softball?

Step it up a notch... take 1 big swing... just to get a clip of her swing from all angles.... then Suicide Bunt next 2... yes on third

Isn't the OP about being a catcher for bad pitching?? not for how to hit bad pitching??

Coming from someone who once sat on a bucket for one of these pitchers I know it can be exhausting!!! Hopefully some of these parents of catchers can help you out with some advice. All I can think of it working on keeping your pitcher calm and encouraging her to focus on your glove and her mechanics. But that is a rough one.

Sometimes hitting out of the zone can be a good thing in games like this. Patience is going to test her. If she sees that "one" good close enough pitch within range, she need to learn to take advantage of that.

You are right.

Our C knows what they are in for depending on P.

Ignore idiot pitcher parent, which can be hard for young lady.

She does not have to be perfect.

Sorry I should have been more clear. The other teams pitcher was decent, it was the pitcher that my daughter was catching that was all over the place. I'm just worried that she will get frustrated that all the t-drills, time working on her secondary position and throws to second are wasted because she spends her time scrambling to get ball at the backstop.

Last thing.

DD is an easy C, she will throw ball where you want.

We had a few pitchers that ball might not stay on field.

Our Catcher's did a great job, they were up for the challenge.
