Should I worry about possible throat injury?

My little catcher beast took a nasty hit to her jaw after a foul tip at her game today. Her throat hurts and her tonsils are swollen. She says it feels like she has strep throat. No concussion signs, but the throat injuries seem strange. I'm thinking I may take her to the doctor to ease my mind. I've never seen her hit so hard by a ball. And she kept catching and went in to bat again!! She finally felt bad and sat out the rest of the game. Sometimes I think these girls are too tough.

c. She finally felt bad and sat out the rest of the game.

Gotta say I agree completely with EcoT here given the scenario and results you've described. May be nothing but some swelling and temporary discomfort and hopefully that is the case.

Weird things happen back there behind the dish, last week my catcher beast took a thrown bat to the throat/neck area. Runner was out at first anyway and only received a warning from the ump. The ump did take time and checked my DD pretty well before allowing play to resume (no way was she gonna come out without an argument). Ps. Coach missed it completely and gave my DD a hard time afterwards about having to be tough back there, blah, blah and thought that she had gotten dirt in her eye and that's what the delay was. smh DD was sore for a couple days but that was it.

Decided to be safe rather than sorry and went to doctor this morning. Significant facial trauma - no concussion. Of course the doctor said no softball/lay low and she replies "But I have a game on Monday" smh

That is good news.

Kids in our school district have to go and take a base line test before any sports can be played, so Dr.'s have something to compare against.

They may look OK but can they match their results on paper when they were feeling good.

And your the only one that is going to be pro active.

Good Job.

Hope she's ready to go by Monday. Glad she didn't have a concussion. As a former umpire and Dad of a catcher, I'm always amazed how the ball seems to find unprotected areas of the body to hit! Catchers are beasts.
