Looks like your on your way :) If you can, tape off the NOSC stamp. I have heard of umpires hassling catchers if they cant read it. Can't wait to see the finished project! Good luck!

Today I painted the FX2.0 Navy Blue helmet. I painted it Flat Black. I did cover the NOSC Stamp before painting and it is visible. Some photos of my journey below:

First coat of paint (I used an empty container that has an angled handle which was very helpful while handling the helmet... the angled handle was accessible through the helmet opening making handling a breeze):

Drying after the last coat:

Then I got a little bit creative and added some flat grey lines. There are not perfect but it does the trick. It coordinates the color of the helmet with my DD's chest protector:

Below is my DD's chest protector:

I'll wait the required 24 hours and then I will reassemble the helmet and take some photos...

After I finished, I realized that painting the grey stripes first would had been easier. Then I would only cover those stripes and paint the helmet black. By doing it the other way, I had to cover too much of the helmet...

Nice job!! Are you going to clear over it? You can use a satin/matte clear coat if you like the matte finish? If not I will be interested to see how it holds up with no protective coat? Looks good and welcome to the world of painting and creativity :)

I'll look for the protective coat... Thanks for the suggestion.

I assembled the helmet... It does not look as cool as the OP's, is also not perfect, but it does look EXTREMELY COOL!!

Excel2002, thanks for your recommendations. I did put two coats of clear matte, and it unintentionally added a hue of grey to the black, which actually looks very cool.

I hope it last... fortunately the helmet comes with a nice bag. Now I need to covince and remind my DD to use the bag, which seems like an impossible task.

I'm leaving it curing now for a week before my DD use it.

That grey look is from the clear having tiny bubbles. (been there :() If you want them gone, wait 48 hrs for clear to harden and then wet sand with 600-800 grit. Be careful not to sand through the color coat. Then shake the SNOT out of the can for a good minute or two. Then lay down a tack coat, wait 4-5 minutes then a wet coat. You will like the results!

Thanks. I'll try that tomorrow and repost.

Looks good! Hope she likes it? I'm sure it will look great with the All-Star gear as well. Now time for you to go find another to paint :)
