A mom who's DD is a 10U catcher in my DD's organization just received her new JCV-22 from Casedawg. She ask me if I'd break it in, this thing is crazy stiff and she said she had no idea where to start. After three 10/15 minute rounds in the dryer followed each time by severe beatings this thing just laughed at me ! I took it to a local indoor hitting facility and the owner let me catch two hoppers full of baseballs, the machine was probably in between 60-70mph. That loosened it up some. The first hopper full, just the owner and a young guy who helps him were there, the second hopper, there was probably 10 people in there, kids there for lessons and their parents. This mitt sounded like a shotgun blast with every ball I caught.

This is for Eric, you know the old saying about hindsight ?? I love my All-Star, it's a great mitt but if I were in the market today for a mitt to bucket catch my DD, I'd buy this Vinci ! For what Casey sells these for, it's a ton of glove for the money.

The JCV-22 is a great mitt. I really wish it had been compatible with my DD at the time we were giving it a try. I hope your DD has much success with this one. :)

Well, the most recent batch of 22 steerhide leather is doing a damn good job of imitating Kip. The last few JCV-22s are almost indistinguishable from the JCV-VM Kip leather. Now this is a good thing because you are getting some excellent leather at a lower price.....and this is a bad thing because it is just as hard to break in as the big dog model. Right this minute, the brown PC steerhide is softer than the 22 leather. I would like to see some more consistency honestly but at least it is erring on the more quality side. Just a booger to break in.

Yep, this leather is very smooth and hard like My DD's custom when it was new. I honestly wrote this mitt off because of the first 22 I got from Casey, I ordered my DD's and a JCV-22 at the same time, the mitt was for a girl on our 12U TB team. Opened the box and handed it straight to the mom. They took it to Dick's and had it steamed, plus it was just broke in weird. This mitt feels completely different, much better ! I really like it, a lot. The 10U girl who owns it will be waiting awhile before she can use it. Brick hard ! The way gloves should be.

What age is she Tatonka? Has she ever owned a Vinci before? Would love to see the reaction on her face when she puts it on her hand and tries to squeeze it, if she's never owned one before.

Haha, yeah I'm anxious to see that look too! Casey has been beating up on it but I know it's gonna be stiff. She's 13 and a very strong kid, we've got some time to work with it before she "needs" to use it full time. Her twin sister just blew out her Wilson and I'm looking to replace that asap. She's a Pitcher/SS/Second base and sometimes outfielder. Not sure exactly which way to go for her at this point though?

My dd's catcher's mitt (Not a Vinci - Her school is sponsored by Louisville Slugger for equipment) finally arrived two weeks ago. She brought it over to break it in. I put a thermal sock over a 20 lb. kettleball and we pounded the bejesus out of it with the kettleball. No heat, no oils, etc. In 30 minutes it was game ready.

I believe that's called the "Mafia Method".
