Just found out C1 on my DD's 10u-B team has a hairline fracture on her hand from being slide into at home in last game of pool play this weekend and my DD is now the starting catcher for next tournament. She was suppose to be the emergency C4, but the C2 and C3 aren't quite ready for tournament ball yet. Daughter had to sub in for C2 for defense and only has a fielders glove, and was catching balls in the palm of her hand and it was stinging.

Was looking at this glove, but need to make sure its suitable for softball and I can get it by Friday.

Check Craigslist, Play-It-Again Sports and Ebay for a used LH catchers mitt. If you have to buy a new one there are some stores that will "steam" the glove to break it in faster than normal. Some argue that steaming shortens the life of the glove, but at this point having a glove "game ready" is more important than durability. I would also recommend asking the pitchers parents if your DD can catch for them during their pitching practices - it will help break in the glove and help your DD prepare. I have broken in several catchers and fielders gloves during "bucket time", but you may have a hard time finding a LH bucket dad.

Thanks. Found a GXF102 31.5 buried in corner at sports basement.

May order other as backup. Need to get home before dark and try it out.

My DD started with the Mizuno. Perfect first mitt at that age. Only left handed mitt I could find that fit her and it worked great. We upgraded when she moved to a bigger ball in 12u but it stays in the bag as her back up.

That model number doesn't match up. The GXF102 is a 1B baseball mitt. GXC-series are baseball catcher's mitts.

For Mizuno, you want to look for a GXS-series mitt. The GXS101 is the bottom of the Mizuno softball lineup, and will be fine for short-term use with pitchers who aren't throwing much over 40.

Yeah Eric.... I just figured that out.... I always get confused between softball 1B Mitts and Catcher's mitts. I'll have to stop by Sports Basement tomorrow and see if I grabbed a 1B mitt by mistake and they had a catcher's mitt.

Our P1 throws 43-44, hoping to get her to 45-46 by the end of the summer.

Thanks!

At that speed, I don't have a lot of confidence that the GXS101 will provide sufficient padding and structure to be a good choice for more than an emergency situation. If that's your only option at the moment, I HIGHLY recommend something like the EvoShield thumb guard. My DD learned the hard way with that exact mitt and a pitcher at that speed. During a pre-game warm-up, my DD didn't have her thumb guard in, and took a pitch off the the base of her thumb. She wasn't able to catch for 2 weeks.
