DD had her first full game catching last night for varsity in our opener. She had caught 2 innings in a scrimmage and prior to that, one in her freshman year, and then it goes way back to 12U.
I was really proud of her performance even though she has a lot to work on.
She was 1 for 2 on steal attempts and the 2nd one was really close (ump said runner got under tag).
She had an assist when the outfielder overthrew first- it hit the fence and rolled...DD picked it up and threw her out at 2nd(one of the more exciting plays of the night:)
On the down side, she had 5 passed balls. I'm not exactly sure how those are recorded as one site says its up to the score keeper on determining this but balls in the dirt are generally not counted or balls thrown high and requires the catcher to raise up out of stance (this seems different than what I've heard) A lot of the balls were in the dirt last night and she definitely got better as the night went on with blocks. The pitcher had one wild pitch which I thought was generous LOL (13 SO) Our pitcher was in the paper for a strong performance in the game and DD was mentioned for a 3 run triple that put us into a "run rule"

She texted me that she's pretty sore today but really had fun last night. Thanks again to those helping a newbie learn this stuff!

WILD PITCH
SECTION 26. A wild pitch is charged to a pitcher when the pitch is so high, wide or low
that the catcher cannot handle the ball with ordinary effort and at least one runner
advances. Any pitch in the dirt is wild. Only one wild pitch is recorded regardless of the
number of runners who advance or the number of bases advanced. A third strike not handled
by the catcher because it was wild, when the batter reaches first base safely, is scored
as both a wild pitch and a strikeout. No wild pitch is charged if a runner stealing on the
pitch advances only one base. Awild pitch is not an error.

PASSED BALL
SECTION 27. Apassed ball is charged to the catcher when she fails to stop or control a pitch
with ordinary effort and at least one base runner advances. Only one passed ball is recorded
regardless of the number of runners who advance or the number of bases advanced. A
third strike not handled by the catcher that could have been handled with ordinary effort,
when the batter reaches first base safely, is scored as both a passed ball and a strikeout. No
passed ball is charged if a runner stealing on the pitch advances only one base. A passed
ball is not an error.

First of all, congrats to your dd in her debut! Don't sweat the PB/WP stuff. Your dd will get better as time goes on. Don't be too critical........let her learn the position.

HS scoring is a little differnt. A PB/WP is directly related to whether the scorer is the pitchers or catchers Dad

So Cal
Welcome, new catcher-beast! :)

Keep drilling the fundamentals of receiving, blocking mechanics, and throwing/fielding footwork until they're automatic. This is stuff you can't practice enough.

Interesting too that our school is the only one in the area that posts all stats on the website. The mail man just came in and said he checked out my DD's stats! It's amazing how many parents from other schools that check them out and say they're glad their school doesn't.

I just got to look at the stats from that game from what the other school recorded. They had it 6 wild pitches and 1 passed ball! Almost the opposite of what ours was scored lol.

She is going the right way, no WPs or PBs. Call it what you want.

Thanks to someone for good catchers were DD does not have WP because her C is that good.

It does not seem fair. :)
