DD has decided to learn how to catch. The team lost a catcher mid way this year and since DD has caught for her sister in pitching practice some, she stepped in to learn the ropes for the team in case we ever needed back up. To her surprise she REALLY likes it. So, we have been attending some of the catcher only practices and clinics the team has. She's been doing a good amount of indoor practice lately. Since then, I've noticed she has absolutely ruined her new running shoes. The toes are completely worn off. I attribute this to when she goes on her knees to throw or block, her toes are grinding into the turf. I tried to buy her a cheap pair of running shoes at Target and she hates them because they don't have the "look" she want's (tween girls:p).
What do you all do for indoor shoes? Is there such thing as turf shoes that have a better toe for catchers? Also, what about cleats for outside?

disclaimer: I also have a pitcher in the family and she wears out her running shoes but is not as vain as her sister and will wear what I get her. We've been buying the Under Armor Molded cleats in bulk when they go on sale (because they are cheap)... Looking for more options

thanks!

For cleats, we don't get anything different than we would for any other fielding position. If my DD played indoor, I would probably opt for something like the Mizuno turf shoes that are built like a cleat.

I like to embarrass my daughters as much as possible. If vanity is keeping her from wearing anything CHEAP, then duct tape is your answer. Wrap those toes up in duct tape and tell her when she's ready to wear the cheaper shoes, you will stop repairing them with duct tape.

On the more reasonable side, I like the Mizuno also. These are the closest that I have found to a playing cleat. I got mine to wear when I'm on the field coaching, (got tired of turning all of my running shoes red with dirt) and when I first wore them, I was a little uncomfortable because it had been a while since I wore such a tough leather shoe. Now they are broken in and feel like a great pair of worn-in cleats. If you think you need a little extra precautions, add a baseball pitchers toe to the shoes.

I know that they were averaging 30% off last week on many of the usual websites, making them anywhere from $25-$55. Good luck.

My DD wears Ringors with the pitching toe. They're indestructible and they also offer a bit of protection against foul tips.

Ringors are not only the most indestructible, but they are the longest lasting. They make them for pitchers as well as catchers and the all- leathers are the cats meow. Yes they are heavier than other brands as well as their own other models but if you want a shoe that will last years, this is the one you want. there are other models which are much lighter and DD has those as well. After 25 games they shoe little wear and she is also a catcher so it might give you a better perspective. Personally,I won't buy her another brand of cleat anymore. They are for her, the most comfortable and the longest lasting.

My dd uses a pair of Mizuno volleyball shoes for indoor. They are pretty sturdy. She won't wear anything but Ringors outdoor. Says they are her most comfortable pair of shoes.

Ringor turf shoes with the pitching toe. My DD used to wear out a pair of tennis shoes every 2-3 months. She has now had her Ringor turf shoes 2+ years and they are still going strong.

thanks everyone.

Looks like once we power through the Target runners for indoor practices and the stash of Under Armor cleats I got on sale around Christmas time ( $12 a pair, I couldn't resist so I bought each kid 3 pair in graduating sizes), we will be checking out the Ringor. They sound like they are worth the money. Now If I can just slow down the growth of my kids feet!!
