I was wondering if anyone owns (or has watched) the Xan Barksdale Catching-101 DVD?

It appears to be specifically a baseball catching DVD, but I thought it looked pretty comprehensive.

And, in an attempt to prevent this thread from going where I think it will end up ... I own a copy of the NECC catching DVD. It's as good as advertised and I have a lot of respect for the Weaver's/NECC method. There are, however, enough threads on DFP discussing that one.

Based on what I've heard on one of the baseball sites, by people who have both Xan's DVD and the NECC DVD...

The content/material is very similar, and generally not in conflict. The production on Xan's DVD is more polished and up to date, and may be easier for younger players to follow along.

I believe this has had some very good reviews on Baseball Fever even from people that own the NECC DVD. I heard the video quality is great also and it's more exciting to watch. I may get it at some point.

Xan is a cool cat. Look him up on baseball-fever. He will usually answer questions directly.
(EDIT: Or should I say, "what he said above me". Clearly I read posts too quickly)

Eric must type faster than me.
I wish it was a little cheaper. ..I let a coach borrow my NECC and can't seem to get it back despite me constantly bugging him about it.

Well, I broke down and ordered this DVD today. I realized I couldn't find my NECC DVD and, being in New England, we aren't getting outside ANYTIME soon ... so they'll be plenty of time to watch this with DD.

Just need to try to hide the purchase (and price) from DW ...

First thing I did when the NECC (and Kobata, and Hillhouse) DVD arrived was rip it, then convert to mp4 and load it onto my mobile devices.

It's great on my iPad to pull up the receiving stance we're working on and show exactly what I am looking for. Just need to find a way to bookmark specific spots on the video. Maybe use Garageband in podcast mode? I'll have to check that out...

I'm a PC guy. The main thing is to get an editor that cuts them. I posted an add-on to Windows media player, that cuts out real easy. $24.00

Then convert to stills. Gimp does all of this, but I use my old stuff.

If you could just make cut clips, and then not worry about .gifs

VLC might do it ??? free

EP: I checked real fast, found this...not the best, but might get you in the ball park.

Cut Video w/ VLC

It works pretty good. I even tried my native camera files, but they are way too big. You shouldn't have any problem with the .mp4 files. When you click that red record button, it don't seem like it dose anything, no files to save....ect... It auto collects them. But mine went to My Doc's instead of My Video. I was really surprised w/ Quality...very good.
