How did the weekend go?

Our team won the ISA World Series, A bracket. 5 and 1 for the weekend, but we didn't run away with it. There were 2 games where we were about to lose, down by multiple runs in the last inning with 2 outs, and came back to win. The first one it was 3-1. We had 2 runners on, my DD came up and hit an in the park homerun and we won 4-3. In another it was 6-3 and we came back again with 2 outs in the final inning to win 9-6. We've never been part of a team where the girls had so much fight in them. It's awesome.

The game we lost was the championship but it was double elimination so they had to beat us again, full game. Tie ball game, time is out, my DD hits a double. A girl comes up to bat who's never played travel before last month and hits a bomb that literally hit the fence about halfway up. It was a beautiful hit.

My big personal brag on my DD though was her triple play. Other team had the bases loaded, no outs. She's playing third:

DD's team ran its unbeaten streak to 19 this weekend. Granted, if you have a streak like that, you probably should be looking for stronger tournaments, but they're limiting travel this fall. In one game this weekend, they were down 2-0 in the bottom of the final inning and scored 3 to win w/ a 2-run triple and a single vs. a pitcher who'd been menacing to that point.

DD's team played a double header against a good JUCO team in the next state over. She batted .400 for the day with a walk, a line drive double to left center with an RBI and went yard to dead center with an RBI. Her batting coach has been working with her to tweak a couple of things in her swing so it was nice to see her get out of her head and hit so well. She had a great defensive game as well both behind the plate and at the corners. Worth the lack of sleep that I got last night from driving 4.75 hours home.

The comebacks are so much fun to watch. I always feel a little sorry for the other team. lol

And this is kind of where we are. We had no idea where to play since it's a new team. We've played 3 tournaments (one was a state and one was a world series, plus one regular tourney), placed 1st twice and 2nd once. Our record now is 13-3. So clearly we need to step it up. We always had that goal but we expected to start playing some A tournaments in a year or so. Instead we'll start dipping our toes into the big kids' pool in the spring most likely. So we should enjoy the winning now, right? ;)

DD2 had an awful experience last season - #3 catcher to not letting her catch at all - huge confidence killer. New team, same level of play, caught 2 of 3 games in their round robin Saturday - getting compliments right away from other team and umpires on her blocking, her throws to second are spot on now, and she was responsible for 3 of I think 4 runs they scored with an RBI double in first game then scored on next hit , and double in third to eventually get walked in. We were in all the games - but to see her contribute was huge for us. Found a team that has great, skilled, encouraging coaches who are working with everyone - that's the difference. DD working hard, but the brag is really for the team and the coaching. 3 promising pitchers too - lots to look forward to.

TB in GA will start back in Nov, are y'all coming down for any showcases?

Not really a brag, but DD's team has the second round of HS playoffs on Wed and Thur. Win this one and we are headed to Columbus for the "Elite 8".

No, just playing in Myrtle twice. Everybody on the team is committed, so I guess that's why they're skipping the GA showcase stuff. This is actually the new LLG Premier team. Will try to qualify for PGF next year from what I understand.

DD had first tournament with her new team and she was so nervous she wouldn't be able to keep up with these very talented ladies, but she really held her own! The highlight of the weekend for me was when she dove on a ball while playing 3rd, hopped up and fired the ball to 1st for the out. We were playing a team that passed on her last year. The coach just dropped his head in disbelief after that play :) I know it's silly, but it's just fun when they play well against a team that said "no thanks"
