Boo scored a 33 the first time she took the ACT last year. I really thought she was done but the Science score was bothering her. She didn't finish and ended up with a 30 for that part. She decided to retake the test a couple of weeks ago and the score was available to day.....35.

I am beyond proud of her tenacity and drive. This puts her above the averages for IVY's, Stanford and Chicago.

Good for her. The great news is a score like that leaves all her options open. The bad news is that there are so many options to choose from!

Curious about why the ACT instead of the SAT, particularly here in the NE? Or has she taken both?

Wow - that is awesome! My son got a 33 the first time too and is getting ready to take it again as his writing score was bugging him...hopefully he will do as well as your DD. Congrats to her!

DD just took some ACT tutoring classes and I bet half the kids there made 33-35, but wanted to get a 36...so you may not be done yet! LOL

PS - congratulations on your DD's great accomplishment, a 35 will open a lot of doors for her!

For the ACT, An "Excellent" rating starts at 24. That means the person taking the test is in the top 25% of all people taking the ACT. The ACT Company sets 20 as the "good" target and goal for most taking the test. I have proctored the ACT for 30 years and have seen the top score increase over time. When you get into the 30s that is an outstanding achievement. Congratulations on your dd's score!

She took the SAT (old version) and scored a 2210 the previous summer. She has SAT II scores of 750 Chem and 800 history. She is taking the Math I, II and Eng Lit or Lang, I can't remember on Saturday.

This has been both a blessing and a conundrum. She has Ivy grades and tests but wants to do medicine. We saved for private college but not for medical school on top of it. Like most families we have had to have that conversation about the financial limitations of where she is going.

My daughter scored a 33 and is completely satisfied with that score. She never wants to take another standardized test again. :p

I took the psat once and the SAT once. I have not encouraged her to retake these but she signs up and asks for the CC to pay for them. She is one of those kids that doesn't give up easily especially if she thinks there might be more in the tank.

Do college plans include SB? Have you run the FAFSA EFC calculator to determine your EFC? It's such a minor cost to apply to additional schools, even if it seems like a long shot on acceptance and/or financial aid, you never know what doors might unexpectedly open.
