My 12 year old daughter plays baseball, only girl on the team. My 9 year old softball player likes to practice with them sometimes, mostly fielding balls in the outfield when they're hitting/fielding. She told me she's annoyed that a cutoff will run way out and stand like 6' away from her like she can't throw the ball. I told her next time to throw it over his head.

So last night we went to practice and she decided to go into full-on show off mode. A lot of boys were missing so she was covering the entire outfield during hitting practice. She did this barefoot because she only wears shoes when required. lol. Anyway, she was seriously on fire. She was throwing balls in from center no problem (coach was like, "She's got a cannon!"). I think if her softball coach had seen it she'd be playing some center field. Besides catching several pop flies all over the outfield, she made one diving catch that I so wish I had on video. It looked like something you'd see a college player do, or an MLB player. It was awesome. I want her to go into show off mode in her games!

And my older one hit a bomb to right field during batting practice so I got to be proud of them both. And then there was still, after all the awesomeness that was my 2 girls, this redneck guy telling his son not to hit like a girl. Yeah, he wishes he could hit like my girls. @@

One of my absolutes when I'm coaching. NO bare/stocking feet at games or practice. They better have spikes, gym shoes or other type of protection on their feet. All it takes is a piece of glass, metal, stick, sharp rock, stubbed toe or other type of debris to be stepped on and a player can lose a game, day, week or season from an absolutely avoidable situation. What they do on their own time I can't control.

Glad to see she showed them what it means to "Play like a girl."

She lives in bare feet, but if I'd known how much she'd be running around I'd have made her put on shoes. Normally she just stands behind whoever's playing center and backs them up. But they were missing so many kids last night she ended up running all over the outfield. I'm sure if she were actually on the this team he'd have made her wear shoes but he probably figured that was my job ;) Normally I don't mind her being barefoot but I already planned to make her bring her shoes next time in case she ends up doing that much running around again.
