What cool stuff did your DD get up to this weekend?

We were off this weekend. This is from last weekend but I forgot to do the thread on Monday. The camera was impossible to mount at this park and we couldn't tell (it was very high up) that half that stupid black screen was in the way. But she's playing short stop here and you can see her, she gets the out.

DD made us proud outside of softball... Saturday she received two scholarship letters for academics which covered the rest of her tuition.. It was an awesome surprise!

We made it to the semifinals of our tourney against some pretty good teams, the 01s are back from high school and our team of 02s held their own. The brag is that it is official, she will just carve up most teams out there now. A team has to be legit to stand a chance against our team when she is in the circle. I am just in awe of the kid, I really cannot believe that she has gotten this good at pitching and I can't wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds over the next few years.

The little one played in a friendly and was hitting lights out and gunning them down on the bases. Watched 11 games over the three days and I was proud papa the whole time.

Also want to brag on the big one's team, just a great group of girls coaches and parents, it is the perfect fit for the kid and I pray they somehow stay together next season.

Right Here For Now
After 2 practices, neither of which were with a complete team since HS was still in season until Thursday, my team played it's first tournament together this past weekend. The team went 2-1 in pool play. In bracket play, they went 4-0. The Championship game was against the team that beat us in pool play and we ended up run ruling them in 5.

DD caught every game this weekend and only had 2 successful steals against her in 7 games versus 9 thrown out. Hitting, she struggled early but came alive towards the end of the tournament for a couple of singles and a double which started the 5 run inning allowing us to run rule the championship game.

Unfortunately, the team we played in the championship comes from an organization that is well known for not distinguishing between playing hard and playing dirty. Needless to say, we took our lumps. Our 1st baseman went down in the 3rd when one of their players hit a medium grounder right to her then proceeded to cross into fair territory, lower her shoulder and plow through her. The next batter shouts down to the 3rd base coach " Go ahead coach, you know you want to laugh!" Another of our base runners stole home and the catcher intentionally tagged her helmet which in turn ripped it off and drove her head into the plate. She was taken out in an ambulance with a major concussion and will probably miss the rest of the season. By this time, DD was pissed. The next inning, they had their first baserunner on 3rd. Their batter put one in play on a hard hit grounder up the middle right to our CF who was playing short. The throw to home was on point and beat the runner by 3 steps. DD, for those that don't know, is 5' 10" tall and 185 lbs of solid muscle. True to form, their runner tries to plow through DD. DD ended up throwing her over her head and the BR landed flat on her back about 2 feet beyond the plate. The BR was called out and that pretty much ended the dirty play. I don't advocate retaliation but in this case, I believe it was more than justified. Where I did draw the line was when DD pointed to the opposing coach with her mitt and asked him how many more does he want hurt. Of course I called time out pulling her aside and had a stern talking to...all the while with my back to the umpires, wearing a smile and making sure that the opposing coaches saw my face.

Yikes! That sounds crazy. 2 steals in 7 games though, that's awesome! On our 10U team if we keep it to 2 steals in one inning we're pretty happy. lol

Wow...that is unreal!! I just don't understand how coaches could encourage that type of play. Kudos to your DD!

I am so very proud of my girl this weekend. Last year, she was the #1 pitcher for her first-year 12U team, but after the season was over we shut her down until January because her arm hurt so bad. There were times that she couldn't lift her arm higher than her shoulder. She went through physical therapy all fall and winter, and only started pitching again in mid-January. She picked up some velocity over the winter, but it's been difficult for her to regain the control she had, and of course the stamina. The team went out and picked up another arm during the winter, the #1 pitcher from a really good team that finished 3rd in the Central 11U USSSA tournament last summer (the same tournament we went 1-5 in).
This weekend, our team made it to the finals of our PGF regional qualifier, and DD pitched a three-hit shutout in the loser's bracket final game to get us back into the championship game. Our #1 started the championship game, but was having problems. With 2 outs in the bottom of the second, bases loaded and already down 4-0, coach brought DD on in relief. She got the next batter to groundout to SS to end the inning. Then she shut the other team down until the bottom of the sixth, when they finally scored 3 runs off of her. On top of that, she went 2-3 at the plate.
We couldn't string together enough hits in a row to score any runs, and we lost the game 7-0. It's a good team that we lost to, and we were down to 9 girls able to play due to injuries, so it was a great finish, playing 8 games in 3 days like that. I am beyond proud of my little girl. She worked so hard in the offseason to get her arm back into shape, she got "recruited over," and all she did this weekend was go out and prove that she's back and better than ever, and that we now have two very strong "#1s."

DD hit a 238ft bomb this weekend in Birmingham. The only thing is, it was on an all the way around 240ft field. It one hopped the fence for a ground rule double. Otherwise, she probably would have scored. Her longest hit I've ever seen. It's finally starting to come together for her, power at the plate. And it was off the Birmingham Vipers 18U #1 who is committed to Belmont. #NoVideoBadDad

Proud parent moment as DD hit her first over the fence home run! It was a no doubter as several coaches and fans estimated it traveled 230 happy feet. She plays for a 14U team and turns 14 later this month. She's in her 2nd year of travel ball and the hard work is starting to pay off. Now we just need it to continue into the weekend when we go down to O'Fallon, Illinois for a USSSA qualifier.

Wanted to add a big shout out thanks to Straightleg and all he does on these forums! Spent hours watching his videos and reading posts about hitting.
