Hi Everyone
I'm new here, but just wanted to brag that my DD ran the fastest 20 at her USSSA elite regional tryout. Ran a 3.3 at 13 years old. Not sure how good that is, but just feels good to know her work on her speed showed at a tryout with 68 girls :). Looking forward to getting to know everyone around here!

Is that 20 yards, which is equal to 60 feet? Did the timer say "go" or start the clock when the runner started?

It depends on how it's timed but DD's 14u team posts their home to 1st times on our website and two players are below 3.0 (best 2.75). DD who isn't a speedster was 4th fastest at 3.18.

Thanks for the info- I definitely don't think that she's the speediest out there, but just wanted to boast that she did the best out of 68 at the tryout. Thanks for the perspective :)

#1 out of 68 is good!

We saw a huge jump in speed from 13yo to 14yo. Huge growth spurts that year for girls. So, next year her time should be under 3.0 if she wants to be considered fast. Nice job.

Excellent! She will get faster.

I agree with the jump around age 14. At 15, DD ran a laser timed 2.68 20 yd dash ................. fastest time at a very large recruiting clinic. (highest vertical and best agility score as well). DD got little to no looks based on this. Most of her looks were at individual college clinics and not at the large recruiting camps. I would NOT waste my $ again on these recruiting camps. Money not well spent.

My DD just keeps getting slower lol. Actually she's not horrible at 14 as she runs anywhere from 3.05-3.25 as a Catcher. Once the weather allows we will do some out door parachute work to work on that time.

To comment on the USSSA Elite tryouts, I think they are the biggest crock around. Another money grab at the parents. As for confidence for the player, I think it's great for those that make the teams and go to Orlando.

I just read about a 13 yr old that has agreed to attend Washington. They offered her based on her current size and speed. She is a third baseman. She's 5-3 or 5-4 and is a muscular 135. She's home to first in 2.8 and deadlifts 230. Washington offered her based on softball and basketball.

FWIW,
We just attended a large combine with a lot of college coaches from across the board. They said that any 20 yard dash time 3.0 and below was fast. In my experience of home to first times, 3.0 is more average than fast. Interesting to see all the different opinions on what is considered fast and what isn't.

OP, congrats to your DD for being in the top 20 at the event.

My guess is that 3.0 is a little above average, even for a college team, if it's timed out of the batter's box. If it were on a track and the players were in starter's blocks, then I'd say 3.0 would be average. Mostly guesswork on my part, however. I just know that my daughter is considered a slightly faster than average in 16U (not a stolen base threat, yet swift enough to play CF), but I don't think she'd hit 3.0 on dirt out of a batter's box. Maybe I should time her this afternoon and see. Could be wrong.
