I will be the first to say my DD is not the greatest pitcher out there. She is first year 14u...she has some height at 5'8", but on the light side at 120. Her top speed is 56 so she isn't going to blow it by many teams. What she does have is very good movement on her pitches. She primarily throws drop, DC, and change.
This past weekend we played an ASA qualifier and went against one of our state's top 14u Elite Gold teams. This team just went to California and won a few tournaments. DD was put on the mound by her HC and of course I was a little nervous, but I do know if you want to see where you are and want to get better you have to go against the best competition you can.
Over 5 innings DD only gave up 5 hits. Out of those 5 hits only 1 was a solid hit. I think she only had 1-2 Ks. All the rest were choppy grounders or pop ups. She had her DC going strong and they had difficulty figuring it out. Then mixing in her change up that has a drop/drop curve action was keeping them off balance.
I was very, very proud of her to say the least. I am always proud of her, but in this case I think she took another step at becoming a very good pitcher. She was poised and focused, but smiling and slapping gloves with her team mates. It is good see when the hard work pays off.
