Dd had an incredible night at the plate the other day.
She went 3 for 4. A HR, a double, and a single.... 6 rbi's. The one out was a hard line drive that was a bulls eye right into the ss's glove. She barley moved an inch.
Dd was so excited thinking about the next days local news paper, she just knew there be a picture of her and her stats etc. But nope! It was an away game and our local news guys didn't make the trip. Then to add insult the coaching staff made no effort to call in the stats of the game (like they usually do) dd is bummed out.

that's a monster game for sure.....and I understand that would disappointing not to get any pub for it but that's how it goes sometimes and being salty about may or may not help depending on her disposition....but your DD should work hard to get two, then maybe three of those monster games in a row and maybe she will get the "run" or "gloss" she deserves....and asking why a staff did not call that in is a question I would ask of a coach....that stuff is important and just plain incompetent, but happens all the time withg apathetic HS coaches....

That is a great day and it's nice to clip those for the scrap book or for the Grandparents to read.

Your dd plays with my dd? Small world or just a lot of apathetic coaches. DDs coach has totally embraced being a minimalist.

The most aggravating part of that to me is sending a link to an article feels much better to my DD as opposed to putting the same stats and write-up in an email to a college coach. To her it did not feel like bragging but just pointing out what others wrote. :) May sound weird but how she viewed it.

The whole point of being on a HS team is to get your name in the paper, right?

I have some friends whose daughter was a star runner in HS. (Also college. She was 2nd team All-American her senior year). She went to a small HS, but the sports writers wrote about her all the time. They kept a scrap book of all her press clippings.

Hey, not just sports people. I once had a volunteer position keeping a scrap book for a congressional candidate in Arkansas, Bill somebody.

I learned that some papers like to have you (the public) do their work for them (ya, I know, ....shocking....)

Late in DD's HS career I got in the mode of creating a couple memorable paper & tv spots for DD back when she was in HS. (OK - no $ was transacted....) Were they a bit self-serving?,.... mayyyyyybbbbbeeeee,.....but I don't care anymore because I have copies for DD for years to come. I also didn't care about being her promoter as otherwise the sports-writers in this town would have just wrote another meaningless blog about their chosen few "darlings" they would always write about no matter how inconsequential the update was..... In the end I think I found out that the other "darlings" just had more persistent dad-promoters than me ;)

BUT BIG congrats to your DD & you.

That's is rotten, especially if you are the type that likes to keep scrapbooks, I know I did for my DD. Unfortunately though we lost hers in Hurricane Ike.

One of my pitchers made the paper this week as she closed out a tight game to help her team earn a play-off spot. I worked with her last night and asked her if she had cut out the article and saved it and she replied, "Nah, I've been in the paper before." We had a good laugh, great down to earth kid.

Yeah we never get game coverage...not sure who calls who, but it doesn't happen for our HS unless we play a bigshot school. Will probably be in paper after Friday night's first round playoff game against team ranked in top 25 in nation. And it probably won't be pretty. Go figure. LOL.
