I teach all of my catchers, but especially my DD, that the throw goes 8-12" off the ground at the front corner of the bag. I don't care where the SS is. That's where the throw goes.

I am not explaining myself well. I'll try to add illustrations to this picture. That other image was the first I could find and not meant to be an illustration of where she was trying to get based on Austin's teaching.
Like I said, I am severely limited to what I can do from work and I...
Yes, sorry that the illustration is not that great. I am limited in my tools on my work computer. She is getting her hand all the way behind her head. She doesn't rotate the ball completely facing up but she overextends her arm. Austin did send me some drills by email to do, but any other...
I think this is the best place for this.
Last weekend my DD went to an Austin Wasserman throwing camp. It was catcher specific and he was awesome with the girls. She experienced arm pain after they started long tossing and Austin was great about breaking down what was causing the problem with...
My parents drove 8 hours to come visit the family a few months ago during a weekend that DD was guest playing in a one day tournament with the team that she is now playing with. They couldn't be bothered to ride the 1 hour with us to the tournament to see her play. So, they drove 8 hours to...
So, from the perspective of a 2022 graduate, what should my DD be doing now as she heads into the summer before 9th grade? We are planning on her attending a summer "prospect" camp for catchers this summer at one school she is interested in and I am considering having her fill out the...
Defender Hockey Style Mask – Force3 Pro Gear
The catching coach that my DD has been working with recently recommends this gear. Does anyone have experience with it? The bottom mounts on my DD's helmet have broken so I need to replace her helmet ASAP.
This is the biggest thing I am working on with my DD right now. She is just starting with a new team and had to catch for the #1 pitcher without ever seeing it before this weekend. She struggled with getting on the outside and with finding the pocket because this girl throws much faster than...
This is exactly what my DD was taught by Savannah Jaquish at a camp and has been doing since she started. It is funny getting shocked looks at how low my DD can get in her No-Runners stance flat footed.

I’m going to go against the trend and say Catcher 2 unless I have bad pitching. You can teach blocking and receiving techniques easier than taking an average arm to a stud arm, IMO.
I may be biased though because my DD is closer to 2. She is working hard to develop blocking technique. Her...
My DD is still a few years away from recruiting but my DW just came to me with a complaint that she has from an upset Aunt.
So, my DN(Darling Niece) has been playing travel ball for her whole life, plays for her school team, and is an all around great kid. She hits for power and plays a mean...
Cricket played her first tournament with a new team this weekend. Played awesome, won the tournament, and got invited to join the team. She is in heaven right now.

I see it mentioned a lot in other posts so I’ll add a question to my own thread.
My DD uses a Vinci fielder’s glove and we love it. It’s been mentioned that the Mizuno has a deep pocket and I think that will be a big help for my DD. How do the Vinci mitts compare in terms of pocket size and...
Great suggestion. My other catcher uses a well used Mizuno H-web and DD used it last weekend at our tournament. The difference was massive. We are attending a demo day tomorrow so I will be having my DD try on a few mitts and probably picking her up a new one to start breaking in.

I didn’t mean to start a debate about Coach Eriksen’s philosophy with this. My DD worked with Savannah Jaquish over the winter break and she used a catcher’s mitt. There are merits both ways. I was merely asking about the pros and cons.

It was my understanding that catchers thumb was a break from the thumb being bent backwards not a repetitive stress injury.
I’m seriously considering the switch for two reasons. My DD has smallish hands and the extra padding can actually make pocket a little harder to manage for her causing...
While I was attending a practice at USF with my DD and one of my players we noticed that all of their catchers were using first base mitts. My DD and I are considering making that switch since she is due for a new mitt.
What are the opinions here about the differences in mitts?
