Great minds think alike - I also use OxyClean soak and brush Fels Naptha into the stains.
I'm a softball dad and do all the softball related laundry. I have been lobbying against white pants for years now.
I agree it is not hard for the pitchers to adjust. Last year we played 12U tournaments with the pitchers at 40' and the next weekend we were playing 14U scrimmages with the pitchers at 43' and the pitchers had no problems adjusting.
Our league has about the same players and similar board positions to what Coachmom has above. Some people hold more than one position. Some positions have two people assigned so they can tag team it.
The VP title means nothing, the question is what they do. Our VP handles registration and...
I have also moved away from the "wrist flick" drill. You want them to learn how to let the ball roll off their fingers to get the correct top-to-bottom rotation. This is not done by consciously "snapping the wrist" but should happen naturally with proper throwing mechanics. To demonstrate...
I don't think there are a lot of "A" level players available right now but I guess their strategy is to just cherry pick the best who have already committed to other teams. Sorry but I don't think this is going to generate much interest from the kind of players they say they want.
I've also used a board behind the ankles.
Also try having them stand on top of a 2x4 (long side horizontal) which will make them step into the pitch or they will fall off it.
I'm not the parent of a pitcher but I would not push her to get back in to pitching. If she doesn't want to do it she won't do well or have fun.
I would tell any lefty that wants to play at the "next level" to concentrate on 1B, outfield skills, and most of all hitting.
You want to go to an instructor to learn new things or solve problems.
If your DD is already an experienced pitcher maybe all she needs is some practice to knock off the rust. Then you might notice some problems that an instructor could help you with.
Seeing an instructor doesn't have to...
There is plenty of softball at all levels. If you have questions about a specific league or program PM me and I will tell you what I know. Tryouts for travel / tournament teams is wrapping up now but teams are often looking to pick up players in the fall / winter as things settle out.
Here...
Do you have a right to be upset? Sure. Now that the season is over should you complain to the coach or other parents about it? Probably not.
Maybe the coach really thought his now cleared to play DD was the better option. Maybe he should have pulled her out of the game earlier but at...
If your DD is a standout player that belongs on an A team I would have her try out for the established A teams in your area and see what shakes out.
I don't know the situation in your area but in general there are a lot of teams out there at various levels. You said your first all-star team...
I would take at least one and probably two guest players for the reasons you stated. Why risk having to forfeit or take outs if someone gets sick or injured?
Use bench time or losing a starting position in response to repeated mistakes.
Instead of running laps as punishment make them keep working on a drill that focuses on the problem area until everyone gets it 100% right. This uses a combination of peer pressure and competition to inspire them...
IMO intentionally walking a batter is a lot different than telling a player to intentionally strike out. You can explain to your pitcher that you're not doing it because you don't have confidence in their ability but that it increases the odds of getting the next out or preventing a run.
Two...
In our area most team hold tryouts 3 or more times within a one or two week period. Players are encouraged to attend multiple sessions. I think many players attend tryouts for teams they have no intention of playing for just for the experience. I suggest you get some parents or friends to...
